Deep within Syndicate Worlds' space, the Alliance fleet continues its dangerous journey home under the command of Captain John "Black Jack" Geary, who was revived after a century spent in suspended animation. Geary's victories over the enemy have earned him both the respect and the envy of his fellow officers.

This is the first book that I've listened from the fleet series and I was surprised of how entertaining it was. Solid scifi story with politics and romance added to the mix. The battle scenes are well chronicled and fast pace - I have not encountered this type of narrative before. Strongly recommend it if you prefer novels that deal with space battles.

Danny North knew from early childhood that his family was different - and that he was different from them. While his cousins were learning how to create the things that commoners called fairies, ghosts, golems, trolls, werewolves, and other such miracles that were the heritage of the North family, Danny worried that he would never show a talent, never form an "outself"....

I am a fan of Orson Scott, his Ender and Shadow of Ender series are some of my favorite books. This book did not disappoint and I will be reading the other books of the series. Similar to Ender, the Lost Gate tells the story of a young, strong character that is learning his past and future as a powerful mage with the ability to link points in time and space. At times the book is slow; however, the author and narrator are able to keep the reader interested because of the two distinct stories that intertwine towards the end. If you like Ender series with a fantasy twist, you will enjoy this novel.
