The Star Beast is one of Heinlein's stories for youths with teenage main characters. The story unfolds almost as a mystery with the star beast as an unknown species extra-terrestrial. The main human character (John Thomas) believes he is raising Lummox as a pet. Little does he know the funny and surprising truth. Full cast audio productions add extra life to any story by having a wide variety of voices for the characters rather than a typical single narrator. The voices of the various characters are well matched. My favorite youth Heinlein is "The Rolling Stones". I also love "Have Spacesuit Will Travel" which are both also done by "Full Cast". I recommend all 3 books for young readers and all Heinlein fans.
We have recently started reading Crusie books (5 so far) and are hooked. In this story she creates a pair that are impossible to imagine together and through a wonderful story in which each of them discover truths about themselves, they find they can create a perfect Cinderella ending. Can't wait to read more books buy this author with a wonderful sense of humor with great characters.
This is a wonderful book but the title and description are for book 3 of this series. The book that downloads is book 1 of the series. This book title is simply "Catwings". The author has a lovely soothing voice. This story is about kittens with wings first leaving home. I was dismayed when it ended so quickly and will be sure to look for the rest of the set. Hopefully audible will correct the title, but I am not sure how to tell if they add book 3 later with this title -
For Gilman fans who can't get enough of Emily Pollifax. Emily joins Farrell again for another adventure. If you are a fan you will enjoy this story. If you are new to Gilman or Pollifax, the first 6 books are best (this one is #10). As a Pollifax introduction, I recommend "The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax" in which she first works for the CIA. Mrs. Pollifax is an unusual "little old lady" who has surprising skills as a spy because she looks so innocent. Light adventure, wonderful characters. I enjoy the multi-voice reading for this book as a nice change from the single voice narration (Barbara Rosenblat) for most of the Pollifax books.
This book was not only enjoyable it was engrossing. I could not wait to get back to it every time I had to put it down. The author explains complex astrophysics in layman's terms. I enjoyed his lighthearted explanation of how the universe works. A broad spectrum of topics from the sub-atomic to complex molecules and how they are made are covered. I found myself saying "Oh yeah - I remember that from high school!" (40 years ago). Explaining the nuts and bolts of matter and how they make up our universe was very useful to me in understanding the relationship between planets, stars and galaxies.
