From farmer Joel Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. In Folks, This Ain't Normal, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love.

Would you listen to Folks, This Ain't Normal again? Why?

I would like to go over things to hear them again, because I would like to find a way to tell others about what I have learned and my graso of it all is very vague. I think everybody should read this book to understand about food, the industry, and the earth and how we all relate to it - animals and humans and plants.

What did you like best about this story?

I think Joel is great. I would love to meet him and visit his farm. He is a true American hero.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I love how he talks about his ways of farming and how he is a steward of the land.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, this book is long but there is never a dull moment.

    Any additional comments?

Love this book and will listen to it again and have others listen too.

"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Stephen Redding says: "Great presentation of a moral dilemma"
"Helps me appreciate where my food comes from."

Would you listen to The Omnivore's Dilemma again? Why?

    I think I will.

What other book might you compare The Omnivore's Dilemma to and why?

I think it pares well with "Folks This Ain't Normal."

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like the way it was told and I think the performance was spot on.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I really appreciate the hard work that goes into gathering, preparing, and hunting for food.

    Any additional comments?

I love to cook and spend a lot of time at it and this book helps me to reaffirm my dedication and the time I spend shopping, cooking, and packaging meals for my whole family.
Wish my wife could listen to it so she would understand why I am so crazy about preparing healthy, sustainable, and organic foods for our family, and sending her away with a healthy packaged lunch, and why I get so upset when she doesn't eat it and goes for restaurant food instead - grrr.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know how to be a better leader and to people that are being led by the usual leader.
I also think it teaches us a great way to communicate with people in business and in personal life too - like family and other loved ones.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Personally I find this book would not be as good in print for me. I can follow along easily and can think of ways that the lessons apply to me.

The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning, along with the houses in which they were hidden. Guy Montag was a fireman whose job it was to start fires. And he enjoyed his job. He had been a fireman for ten years, and he had never questioned the pleasure of the midnight runs or the joy of watching pages consumed by flames, never questioned anything until he met a seventeen-year-old girl who told him of a past when people were not afraid.
