I love listening to these kids of stories in the car...easy to follow...fun for the kids. But the narrator is really bad. His voice is nasally and when he does the characters voices they are stilted. The narration is very distracting from the story so that even a 12 year old who loves the books - doesn't want to listen. Don't waste your credits.
It drove me crazy that the narrator kept calling the lead character eeef If you are going to narrate an entire book don't you think they would check it? Good story otherwise. Typically a vampire knockoff.
A very black and white story, little character development. If I suggest anything for audiences of sci fi and YA, it's the transformation of the characters. This became repetitive and I just stopped listening. P.S. It's woman not Lady.
Well narrated and a very worthwhile book for anyone interested in South American culture and why the "illegal immigration issues" is just a smokescreen to hide a deeper issue, which is the politics of the U.S. and South American countries.
Oh my god! I have had a string of poor stories and narration here. This story is so difficult to follow, and the pacing is very slow. Although the end picked up a little, most of the characters were uninteresting and boring. I'm not sure if the author liked any of them.
While this may be a good book, I find it laborious. The narration is affected - and the story is difficult to follow - but maybe because I lost interest and my mind wandered quite a bit.
Once again the author and the reader do not disappoint. If you like these mysteries, they are a great listen, easy to follow when you are driving, and not so intense you plow into a truck.
Whoa what went wrong here. The book doesn't flow, characters were stale and one dimensional. I was offended by the Latina cleaning woman, who, of course, had a nephew in trouble, and a husband in jail who gets an NCIS agent killed trying to help her.
Of course injury added to insult when the Latina agent has a horrible stereotypical accent. Note to reader...When you are doing a woman's voice just read it...don't try to sound the way you think we do!
If that's not bad enough, we get a mini allegory thrown in about belief in God and Jesus etc. I started to feel like I was in church. The author is welcome to make his characters have a point of view and a religion. However, maybe if there was some character development it might have fit in with the story. Instead we are subjected to preaching about the value of having faith in God. I myself was praying that the story would eventually find a rhythym and be entertaining. My faith has been tested.
I was bored and found my mind wandering. The book was supposed to be a mystery focusing on a chinese detective. Instead is was a history and a discussion of chinese art (never described so I still don't know what it is). I suppose I was expecting more character development, like in Amy Tan. While we get a narrative of the past and present experiences of the characters, they seem bland and one dimensional to me. Also, as far as Narration is concerned I like a straight read. Unless you are the narrator for Harry Potter, please just read the book, we all have enough imagination, and inflection and tone is enough to suffice!
Most of the audio is spent in "sucess stories" and name dropping. Narration is poor, not an enjoyable voice to listen to. Nothing said that hasn't been said before, somewhere else or better. Not very deep.
