Octopussy is an anthology of three novellas. In the title story, 007 is sent to Jamaica to deal with a rich, deranged major with a fondness for eight-legged creatures. In "The Living Daylights", Bond's mission is to kill the KGB sniper, code named Trigger, who will try to prevent an important Russian official from defecting. "The Property of a Lady" finds Bond at an auction, tracking down an exotic object d'art and a deceptive woman.

I wasted a credit by buying this. I already had these stories on Quantum Solace. The stories are great, but I'm leaving the "rate" at one star because I was deceived.

For years, ex–Navy SEAL Maxwell Moore has worked across the Middle East and behind the scenes for the Special Activities Division of the CIA, making connections, extracting valuable intelligence, and facing off against America’s enemies at every turn. And then...news of a potentially devastating coalition: What if two of the greatest threats to the security of the United States were to form an unholy alliance?

I enjoyed the first chapter or two, but the story has got fuzzy and I'm not struggling with it. There is more enjoyable stories to listen to. Maybe the print version is better for this book. However, I do not feel like buying it.

  • Miss Marple's Final Cases

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 29 mins)

    Story

Miss Marple always makes a point of "taking an interest" in other people's affairs, though nothing engages her curiosity quite as much as sudden death, scandal, blackmail, or suicide. In these, her penultimate cases, she encounters a wounded man in a church; buried treasure; a fatal riding accident; a corpse and a tape measure; a girl framed for theft; and a suspect with a dagger.

It is important to have crystal clear audio. I am listening again with a new device and enjoying these short stories *much* more.

A menacing force surrounds us. We see it, we feel it, we know it. The country we love is in grave peril. While politicians and "experts" prattle on about the debt crisis at home, and terrorism abroad, a more insidious homegrown threat is emerging. It endangers our future and undermines our present. The uncomfortable truth: We have become our own worst enemy.

I feel as much as I like Laura Ingraham; I will enjoy this book more as a print version (digital so I can raise the font size).

The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens's novels, Nicholas Nickleby follows the delightful adventures of a hearty young hero in 19th-century England. Nicholas, a gentleman's son fallen upon hard times, must set out to make his way in the world. His journey is accompanied by some of the most swaggering scoundrels and unforgettable eccentrics in Dickens's pantheon.

While Simon Vance is wonderful and brings the characters alive, I find I dread what comes next in the story. I enjoyed David Copperfield, but I cannot get in to NN.

Being President doesn't make things any easier, Jack Ryan finds out, especially when trouble's brewing in Moscow and China. Blending the exceptional realism and authenticity that are his hallmarks with intricate plotting, razor-sharp suspense, and a remarkable cast of characters, this is Clancy at his best - and there is none better.

Anthony says: "Clancy's World is Fun"
    "Clancy cannot be abridged"
    Overall

Besides regret over the download of the abridged version, I will not select Frank Muller as a narrator again. I guess I am spoiled by the talent of many others who are able to pronounce words and phrases beautifully and perform a variety of "voices." Another reviewer mentioned the style of Muller and I thought I could still enjoy it. I see now what that reviewer means; Mullers performance just wears one down and one feels punished for listening.

  • Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer Among the Indians

In 1885, while The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was becoming one of the best-selling American classics of modern times, Mark Twain began this sequel in which Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and Jim head west on the trail of two white girls kidnapped by Sioux warriors. Fifteen thousand words into the work, Twain stopped in the middle of a sentence, never to go back. The unfinished story sat on dusty shelves for more than a hundred years until author Lee Nelson decided to finish it.

When I got to the part about the torture by the Indians, I stopped listening.
