Another great Dexter book! The character in the book is so much more compelling than the TV character...and Jeff Lindsay does a great job as narrator as well as author. An entertaining, chilling listen.
Another wild installment in Rachel Morgan's adventures - and her adventures just get more unbelievable. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but once you accept a world where witches and demons travel back and forth from the underworld, and elves are involved with genetic manipulation and ketchup is considered dangerous, then little things like a goddess who loses pieces of herself, or catching a train at fifty miles an hour with the help of gargoyles seem almost logical. The characters are wonderful, even if I do miss bad guy Trent. Biz is coming into his own. And by Tink's pink *****, Jinks the pixie is one of my favorite characters ever!
I've listened to the whole series, so here I am back to review the first book! Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi go together like peanut butter and grape jelly! Molly Harper has a great ear for dialogue, and wonderful characters. I love the main characters, but the minor characters light up the story and really add depth! The dialogue is snarky, sarcastic, entertaining and fun. Give this series a try!
Merit's adventures as Sentinal of Cadogan House continue, with more monsters, more steel, a truly hot master vampire - if you have enjoyed the previous Chicagoland Vampires books, then this one will continue the fun. However, don't try to jump in here -- I really suggest that you start at the beginning of the series - the author doesn't waste a lot of time or ink filling in the back story, and there is a lot of back story for this one. Warning - this one has a cliffhanger ending - write fast, Chloe! I can't wait for the next one!
Nothing original, trite writing, wimpy foolish heroine. Really, when she decides that the male character, Hawk, must be a good guy because he can afford to buy her expensive shoes, I was about done with her! And a good editor could help - "I was feeling tired and frustrated. 'I'm feeling tired and frustrated,' I said." Hawk is lifted directly from another series - Puerto Rican security specialist with immense amounts of money - sound like Ranger to anyone else?
Shelly Laurenston has a fine pen for dialogue, and a talent for developing fun, lovable characters. What a shame to ruin this with a reader who has no differentiation between characters and the worst excuse for a southern accent ever.
Oh, good heavens, get on with it already. We all sit around the room arguing. Then we have a fight that lasts forever. Then we all sit around the room arguing. There is very little plot, very little meaningful action. This is a five-snooze book.
Molly Harper doesn't write deep, thought provoking novels - she entertains. If you want something light and fun and a few chuckles, then this is a great choice. Ms. Harper is a genius of sarcasm and snark. Her characters are quirky and the situations are ridiculous, and I enjoyed every minute! And, try the green beans - pretty good, even if there is nothing nutritious about them!
Poor Styxx. Sad Styxx. Bullied Styxx. Hundreds of pages of "let's all feel sorry for Styxx." All of the heroes of this series have terrible back-stories, that is the major premise of the series. But, really, page after page after page of Styxx being tortured is just boring. There are only so many ways a person can be beaten or raped, and I'd a lot rather have some action or adventure than this repetitious, depressing slop. Sherrilyn, you let us down.
This was awful. I've tried 3 times to get into it, but the plot is so trite, and the characterization so shallow, there is just no way I can listen to any more.
Charlotte MacLeod delivers another fun mystery with good characters and a great location (The Bay of Fundy). However, the presentation is ruined by poor narration - over enunciation of words, strange pauses and breaks, and a really bad interpretation of how older people sound make this hard to listen to, and take away the enjoyment of a fun little mystery.
