Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

An incredible Story. If you love stories about WW2 then this book is a must have for your Library.
A different perspective of the War that you would almost think is Fiction.
After listening to this book I realize that I know only a fraction of what these Soldiers went through.

From the preeminent Hitler biographer, a fascinating and original exploration of how the Third Reich was willing and able to fight to the bitter end of World War II. Countless books have been written about why Nazi Germany lost World War II, yet remarkably little attention has been paid to the equally vital question of how and why it was able to hold out as long as it did.

I could see where it might be interesting to some, but it seemed to me that if is was telling one story, he would give 10 to 15 examples of the very same thing...just different names and places. I would get where he was going with a point, and he would tell example after example after example. The author could cut the book in half, and it would have been a lot better.

Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

Great books..I really don't care for prequels, but I loved the first ones so much I took a chance. Dang I'm glad i did... It's almost as if M.J.S. Planned it this way. After I finished with the two prequels, I went back and relistened to the first 3, and wow I got so much more out of the whole series.

The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Mixing a bit of seventeenth-century French history with a great deal of invention, Alexandre Dumas tells the tale of young D'Artagnan and his musketeer comrades, Porthos, Athos, and Aramis. Together they fight to foil the schemes of the brilliant, dangerous Cardinal Richelieu, who pretends to support the king while plotting to advance his own power. Bursting with swirling swordplay, swooning romance, and unforgettable figures.

    I Can't believe I've went 48 years and haven't read this book.
There were parts in this book that I wanted to skip because the story had me so mad. Am so glad I didn't.
From the start it grabbed me and would not turn loose. I usually listen riding to work and when I cut grass, I even cut my neighbors yard so I could get another 2 hours of book time. I would give 2 credits for just another 2 hours.
    Wow just Wow.

I read some of the other reviews, and they said that after a while the book grabbed you.
I did not have this problem, it grabbed me from the first page.
I love historical fiction, but this is my first book dealing with the Japanese, it will not be the last.
With that said I wish the author had spent a little more time on the ending, it's almost like the he got tired at the end and took the easy way out, or someone told him that the book was to long.
Don't get me wrong I didn't mind the ending, just the way it was ended.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

What did you love best about The Pillars of the Earth?

I debated on buying this book because I watched the movie a couple of years ago.I know that the book is always better, but I THOUGHT I knew outcome. Wrong. There was so much changed that it seemed like a different , but similar book. There were a lot of subplots left out of the movie. That alone was worth the credit for this book.
I really love the the different subplots. You could almost make different books off of each one.

What other book might you compare The Pillars of the Earth to and why?

    Nothing that I've read.

What about John Lee’s performance did you like?

John Lee and Scott Brick are the two best in my opinion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The good guys always win in the long win.

    Any additional comments?

I have been an avid reader all of my entire life, and I also have almost 300 audible library. I just can't believe I've went this long, and never read or listened to A Ken Follett novel.

Anti-Terrorist Task Force agent John Corey and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, have been posted overseas to Sana'a, Yemen - one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East. While there, they will be working with a small team to track down one of the masterminds behind the USS Cole bombing: a high-ranking Al Qaeda operative known as The Panther. Ruthless and elusive, he's wanted for multiple terrorist acts and murders - and the U.S. government is determined to bring him down, no matter the cost.

Would you try another book from Nelson DeMille and/or Scott Brick?

Yes, I will give Nelson DeMille another chance, he is a great writer. He dropped the ball on this one tho. Scott Brick could make a dictionary sound interesting.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Split Second by David Baldacci.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Slows the story down (in a good way) he brings the characters to life.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Panther?

I love John Corey's humor, but I think Mr. DeMille put way to much in this book.

    Any additional comments?

No Action, I take that back two action scenes in a in 21 1/2 hour book. Very very slow, and enough with all of the wise cracks. Humor is a huge part of what makes John Corey who he is, but an older head once told me " A man Can get to much of Ice Cream and Cookies.
I found myself just letting my iPod run, I don't think I backed up once after the first hour. I probably would have deleted if I hadn't wasted a credit on this book.
The Lions Game IS one of my all time favorite books, but there has been a HUGE drop off in the last two John Corey novels.
I'll probably buy the next detective Corey book, but there aren't many more chances left in me.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....
