The concept was good and the twist at the end well thought out. I found Noa tried a bit too hard to be 'cool' and the story lapsed a bit sometimes which was where I lost interest. Characters quite well developed and narration good. I expected a different ending so when I got to the end it was a surprise.
This was a lovely, humorous story. It was full of interesting characters, well read and not far fetched as are some funny stories. It wasn't over the top, and had some well-written feel good moments between both Lucy and her son and Lucy and her father. A little formulaic (teenage pregnancy, friend's hottie brother, etc.) but very enjoyable all the same.
I loved this. Nice long book, I listened to it twice. Story is great, full of little twists and turns, read very well and nicely paced.
Well written and read, with believable characters. Was rather slow in parts and the some of it was predictable - the boy who was adopted by a farmer who just wanted him to work on the farm and beat him, etc. Nice ending.
This was a detailed and interesting book. The scenes were very well described and came alive in my mind as I listened. Very well written and read, with a touch of humour.
I found this captivating and listened to it twice to get the full details and story. Very well researched, lots of detail about the people whose lives are followed. Writing style is detailed but not boring, and kept my interest. Initially it is hard to believe people could be conned like this but this book shows how it can happen. Explains the psychology behind cults and charismatic leaders like Jim Jones in a language that is understandable to the layperson. It should serve as a warning to us all. By the end of the book I felt I knew all the characters very well.
This was interesting and detailed. Characters were well developed and believable. The story was easy to follow but not boring, and had enough twists and turns to keep me looking forward to the next chance I got to listen to a few more chapters. Well plotted and quite long which I liked. I will listen to it again as I'm sure there are details I missed the first time round.
This book was informative without being dull. As well as general information, it follows the life of three 'migrants' from the south to the north. I've listened to it twice so far and will probably go back for a third listen as it is quite detailed. The narration is excellent, although sometimes it does swing from one topic to another a little abruptly. The history of how coloured people were treated is dealt with sympathetically and backed by events of actual people. Real life events are well woven with facts and figures so you don't get saturated with data. Would be a great book for students.
This was a good story and well read. Nice and long and held my interest with well developed characters and plot. If you like Shutter Island you'll enjoy this.
I really enjoyed this. It was interesting, believable and well read. Characters were believable as was the actual concept of the story.
