Containing discoveries heralded as greater than the wheel or fire, Dianetics has remained a best seller for more than 50 years. And with over 20 million copies in print, it's indisputably the most widely read and influential book ever written about the human mind. Dianetics enables you to discover and eradicate these harmful experiences so they never affect you again, revealing the one person you've always wanted to know: You.

The concepts presented are just so far fetched that it amazes me a religion has been built around this concept but I guess you have to believe in something.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    "Loved it!"
    Overall

I was captivated by the story line, not your cookie cutter story. I let myself go and enjoyed the imagery of the circus - one of my favorite places. A must read, especially before watching the movie.

On a family visit to the city, Mom is right behind her husband when the train pulls out of Seoul Station without her, and she is lost, possibly forever. As her children argue over how to find her, they each recall their lives with her. Have they lived up to her expectations? Was she happy? Through the piercing voices of daughter, son, and husband, and through Mom’s own words in the novel’s shattering conclusion, we learn what happened that day, and explore an even deeper mystery—of motherhood itself.

    "Couldn't finish the audiobook"
    Overall

This was the first time I was unable to sit through the reading of an audiobook. I found myself mentally correcting the "tense" used in this book. Not sure if it was suppose to be in the 3rd person, the reference to "you" instead of "I" threw me for a loop and make it difficult to concentrate on the story line.

Johannes Cabal, a brilliant scientist and notorious snob, is single-mindedly obsessed in heart and soul with raising the dead. Well, perhaps not soul... He hastily sold his years ago in order to learn the laws of necromancy. But now, tormented by a dark secret, he travels to the fiery pits of Hell to retrieve it. Satan, who is incredibly bored these days, proposes a little wager: Johannes has one year to persuade 100 people to sign over their souls or he will be damned forever.

    "Dark, Humorous, and Hypnotic"
    Overall

One of the best reads I've had in a while. John Howard brought Johannes Cabal and all the characters to life in such a unique way, that allowed me to build images of the characters and the scenarios in my mind. I was able to envision all the dark imagery in a very Tim Burtonish style. This would definitely make a great movie if it fell in the right hands.

  • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls

In this terrifying and hilarious prequel, we witness the genesis of the zombie plague in early 19th-century England. We watch Elizabeth Bennet evolve from a nave young teenager into a savage slayer of the undead. We laugh as she begins her first clumsy training with nunchucks and katana swords and cry when her first blush with romance goes tragically awry.

Dawn says: "Fantastic Narrator for a Fun Story!"
"I Fear The Zombies Hath Arrived"
    Overall

The Zet word is oh so improper and what is a young lady to do? The comical mix of English proper and zombies is genius. I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it to my friends {already have}. Don't expect a literary education here but do enjoy a good read

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

I was captivated by the story line and the southern drawl. I became emotionally involved in this book. What a great listen. Highly recommended
