On April 12, 1862—one year to the day after Confederate guns opened on Fort Sumter and started the Civil War—a tall, mysterious smuggler and self-appointed Union spy named James J. Andrews and 19 infantry volunteers infiltrated Georgia and stole a steam engine called the General. Racing northward at speeds near 60 miles an hour, cutting telegraph lines, and destroying track along the way, Andrews planned to open East Tennessee to the Union army, cutting off men and materiel from the Confederate forces in Virginia.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who is very technically oriented and just wants the facts... not so much a story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Stealing the General?

After two chapters I was not close to learning about The General.

Alissa doesn’t believe in magic. Her father’s stories about the Hold, a legendary fortress where human Keepers learn magic from the enigmatic Masters, are just that—stories. But her mother insists Alissa has inherited her father’s magical ability, so she must go to the Hold to be trained. On her way, she crosses paths with Strell, a wandering musician from the plains.

After reading so many glowing and positive reviews, I felt I had to add mine. The book is well writen but if you want action and adventure, then this is not for you. The cover is representative of nothing. And, to make matters worse, you will have to get the next book as this book has no ending.

The first two books in this series had a much more comedic air, on par with The Hitchhiker's Guide, this book was more serious, probably due to the new narrator. This book did not have the pizazz the others had. It t look two chapters before I got past the speaker. If you skip this book in the series you won't miss a beat.

Meet Shaman Bond, aka Eddie Drood, scion of the ancient Drood family. He is devoted to protecting humanity from the forces of darkness. Protected by the secret weapon received at birth by all members of the Drood family - a magical gold torc (i.e., a neck ring) that turns into a suit of nearly impervious golden armor - Eddie faces arcane dangers with healthy doses of wry self-confidence and sarcasm. Then the family matriarch sends him on a mission that turns out to be a deadly setup.

Thank God Butcher is so prolific, there has been a time when I would finish one of his series to pick up in another one of his series. In other words, Butcher is one of the best and most engaging authors I have read. Add to this a brilliant performance and hold on for a great ride. I hate writing reviews but Butcher is one of my favorite authors so please leave him alone so he can write more as I have read everything he has written!

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

... boy are missing out. Larry Correia is one of the best fantasy/sci-fi writers. Add to that a brilliant performance and sit back for a great ride. This series is so good I actually listened to the first three books again, something I never do.

He took this book down an unexpected road and still managed to bring in the good old boys and girls. A brilliant author, all his books have been great!

Another great series from Jim. This is the first book in the series so it starts a bit slow laying down the background information, then it picks up and you are in for a great ride. Just finished the second book and am moving on to the third. A great series, highly recommend!

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Bought this book because of all the glowing reviews. They must have been from patient people! I gave this book over 7 hours of listening and gave up. I have heard of character development but this is ridiculous. But then I love The Dresden Files and Monster Hunter series. So if you have a lot of patience this book is for you... otherwise, skip it.

..it's time to stop and listen. Larry's books are full of action; with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. His Warbound series was so exciting, that I went through it so fast to find out the resolution of the next conflict, that I had to relisten to the entire series at a more leisurely pace.

What I am saying is listen (or read) his books, you can't go wrong. Oh yes, congrats Mike on working with Larry. Good choice Larry.

How do you keep the people you care about safe from enemies you can’t remember? Ten years ago, Nate Garrett awoke on a cold warehouse floor with no memory of his past and the only clues to his identity were a piece of paper with his name on it and a propensity toward magic. Now he’s a powerful sorcerer and a successful thief for hire, but it turns out that those who stole his memories aren’t done with him yet. When they cause a job to go bad, threatening a sixteen-year-old girl, Nate swears to protect her.
