Forced out of the Los Angeles Times amid the latest budget cuts, newspaperman Jack McEvoy decides to go out with a bang, using his final days at the paper to write the definitive murder story of his career. He focuses on Alonzo Winslow, a 16-year-old drug dealer in jail after confessing to a brutal murder. But as he delves into the story, Jack realizes that Winslow's so-called confession is bogus. The kid might actually be innocent.

    "Very Good Novel"

I have been listening to a lot of David Baldacci recently and he's okay, but Michael Connelly is so much better. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in a good, serious crime novel.

His morning begins with the quick disarming of a would-be mugger, followed by a steamy elevator encounter with a sexy young pharmaceutical rep, topped off by a visit with a new patient - and from there Peter's day is going to get a whole lot worse and a whole lot weirder.

    "Bad Narrator..Really BAD"
    Overall

I'm in complete agreement with everyone else on the site concerning the narrator. I thought I would get over the mispronunciations and horrible voices of Jenks, Ivy, and especially Al. But I'm finding I can't. The story is great so far, but it's going to be one of those audiobooks that I make myself get through instead of the fun experience of the other 5 books. Which is too bad. If I see Gigi's name as narrator for the 7th book, I'm definitely skipping it and giving up on the series until I can find time to read it myself.

I purchased this audiobook based on Stephen King's recommendation and Entertainment Weekly's review. At the time, there were no customer reviews. I'm 3 hours into it and it's been a bad 3 hours. Not much has happened, I hate 3 of the 4 main characters and mildly dislike the fourth. I was going to continue to see if it improves, but I'm taking the advice of multiple reviewers and just stopping now. I've also realized that no matter what happens next, I have stopped caring about all the characters. I guess 3 wasted hours is much better then 14!!!
