Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Would you consider the audio edition of Unbroken to be better than the print version?

    No, because of the narration.

What didn’t you like about Edward Herrmann’s performance?

Sing song delivery. He could have been reading the telephone directory. Wrong inflections. emphasized wrong parts of sentences. Such a big disappointment because he is such a well known and talented actor.

    Any additional comments?

The author is excellent. I loved Seabiscuit and I know several people who read the printed version of this book and loved it. The narration is the worst I've ever listened to.

Boston, 1926. The ‘20s are roaring. Liquor is flowing, bullets are flying, and one man sets out to make his mark on the world. Prohibition has given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, has long since turned his back on his strict and proper upbringing. Now having graduated from a childhood of petty theft to a career in the pay of the city's most fearsome mobsters, Joe enjoys the spoils, thrills, and notoriety of being an outlaw.

What made the experience of listening to Live by Night the most enjoyable?

I felt like this book surrounded me while I listened. It didn't have a dramatic "cliff-hanger" style but I had to hear more and was pulled in by the story.

    Any additional comments?

I've read several of Dennis Lehane's books and loved some, like others. I've also seen the movies adaptations of two of them. This book is best for listening. It was like an audio painting.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

If you could sum up Gone Girl in three words, what would they be?

    Meant for Audio

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

You betcha. Each twist and turn of the plot was a revelation, not anticipated.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

So many twists and turns you will need Dramamine to watch this.

    Any additional comments?

Having the two parts read by a man and a woman lent itself to the story perfectly.

Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

I liked this book much more than I expected. The narrator was perfect. I never realized that this would be such an excellent story for teenage girls.

I thought this book was terrible. The main character did not seem to develop. Just one bad scene after another. He had no redeeming qualities.

It is a society that is, officially, a paradise. Superior to the decadent West, Stalin's Soviet Union is a haven for its citizens, providing for all of their needs: education, health care, security. In exchange, all that is required is their hard work, and their loyalty and faith to the Soviet State. But now a murderer is on the loose.

I expected so much more after reading previous reviews. Very repetitive. The same scene and theme over and over. Didn't feel enlightened or entertained when it was over.

I have been standing on the side of life, watching it float by. I want to swim in the river. I want to feel the current. So writes Mamah Borthwick Cheney in her diary as she struggles to justify her clandestine love affair with Frank Lloyd Wright. Four years earlier, in 1903, Mamah and her husband, Edwin, had commissioned the renowned architect to design a new home for them.

What we like is so subjective. That said, I liked this book better than anything I've read in recent memory! I really felt transported to the lives of FLW and Mimah. I realize it is fiction but had no idea what they went through to be together. I loved it.
