Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.

What did you like best about Ex-Heroes? What did you like least?

I should say that I hate giving negative reviews, and that I picked this up on sale for $5. Ex-Heroes had some interesting takes on super heroes and zombies. That being said, the story was just OK. The characters made some questionable decisions, but that is what drives zombie stories forward and is almost necessary when it's super heroes vs zombies.

The heroes, the focus of the story, don't really seem to be in much danger, so having some of the normals play a bigger role might have added some tension. As it was, most of the humans were just red shirts and more or less expendable. The audiobook was 8 hours, so I don't know how long of a written book that would be, but it seemed short.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The super heroes powers were interesting. Each set of powers was almost completely unique, as well as their back-stories. The zombies were basic slow-moving zombies (with a couple of exceptions), but there is a twist there too.

Another reviewer said that the story was not as unbelievable as it should have been, but I have to disagree. I think when you try to make someone suspend disbelief you should just go for it. Trying to explain super powers or zombies pseudo-scientifically just muddles the suspension. I don't really think that any of the explanations (of the super heroes or zombies) offered in the book are realistic, but I applaud the effort. With zombies, the less explanation the better, and for superheroes I would say the same.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam ?

I thought the choice of two narrators was interesting. I should say that I have not listened to many audiobooks. I thought some of the passages were kind of cheesy, but I don't know if that was the writing or the acting. I would listen to another book narrated by them.

Do you think Ex-Heroes needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

If people like the story I think they would appreciate a follow-up. I probably won't check it out, but there is a lot more that they could do with the world, I think.

    Any additional comments?

I guess I would say I would have been disappointed to spend my credit on this book, and I will probably not recommend it to my friends, but I imagine there are a lot of people out there who would enjoy this book.
