"You have a very lovely little girl," breathed the voice on the phone. And just like that, Susan Young is drawn into a living nightmare. A stranger has kidnapped Sue's daughter, Veda. But he doesn't want Sue's money, only her suffering -- and he will kill Veda if Sue doesn't follow his every command.

    Kim says: "Good, Fast-Paced Story"
    "couldn't finish it"

I had to stop listening when I just didn't care if the main character made it or not. The gory details kept repeating themselves and the general content could not hold my attention. If you like the style of Stephen King you will probably not like this listen.

With each and every new novel, Dean Koontz raises the stakes, and the pulse rate, higher than any other author. Now, in what may be his most suspenseful and heartfelt novel ever, he brings us the story of an ordinary man whose extraordinary commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself, and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

    David says: "Excellent read!"
    "great intensity"
    Overall

This book is what I expect from Koontz in the best way. The only negative is the loose ends from all the destruction were not tied up very well at the end.

In 1988, 43-year-old Jeff Winston died of a heart attack. But then he awoke, and it was 1963; Jeff was 18 all over again, his memory of the next two decades intact. This time around, Jeff would gain all the power and wealth he never had before. This time around he'd know how to do it right. Until next time.

    Overall

Never have listened or read a book like this. Loved the fact I didn't know what would come next. I would have given a "5" except it got a little slow in some areas.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "too slooooooow"
    Overall

I stuck with this just because of the good reviews but only liked the last 2 hrs. Much too slow of a build into the story.

Even four years after the sudden death of his wife, best selling novelist Mike Noonan can't stop grieving, nor can he return to his writing. He moves into his isolated house by the lake, which becomes the site of ghostly visitations, ever-escalating nightmares, and the sudden recovery of his writing ability. What are the forces that have been unleashed here - and what do they want of Mike Noonan?

Amazon Customer says: "My Favorite King Novel"
    "Best listen ever!"
    Overall

I have never read much of King's work but this book had a great story line and just enough paranormal to be believable. Never knew what to expect and the grief expressed by the author made you emapathetic. Didn't take me long to get through this book.

In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

May be too slow for some but very hypnotic and poetic. I was thinking about the characters weeks later. I love it when a book does that to me!
