"Wished I waited for reviews"
I wished I waited for the reviews before I purchased. The amount of language is iritating. I listened to the first hour hoping it would improve. Then the reviews started to come in. I don't think it will be worth my time to continue. If this were a physical book, I would return it.
"Whirlpool of darkness"
This series spiraled further and further into a dark, disturbed ending. At first the series was a page-turner, but then it never went anywhere but horizontal before going down. The main character didn't grow, she degenerated (sans short, unsatisfying epilogue). There is no satisfying "victory" to the story, just a "she barely scraped by not being committed because she's famous."
The reader and production is excellent. The writing is good, it's just the direction the writing took that i didn't care for.
I often like to re-read or listen to books and series. Not this one. Once was enough.
"RE Narrator: use to direwolf, got chihuahua"
I don't mind a series changing narrators. There are many talented narrators, each bring new life and highlight new aspects with their performances. Only my desire to follow GRRM's tale and lack of reading time keeps me doggedly going.
I think John Lee would be better suited to narrating books with only one voice (non-fiction, one character in multi-narrator book, etc.), multi-character narration is not his strong point.
Bottom line: this book should carry a warning to not listen while driving or operating heavy equipment because it causes drowsiness.
