When Andie tries to gain closure with her ex-husband, he asks one final favor of her. A distant cousin has died and left North the guardian of two orphans. When Andie meets the two children, she realizes the situation is much worse than she feared. Carter and Alice aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. Complicating matters is Andie’s fiancé’s suspicion that this is all a plan by North to get Andie back.

    Overall

This was my first Jennifer Crusie novel so I am not sure if this book reflects her usual writing style. The romance in this novel was not well developed and more attention could have been given to the central relationship. The hero is under developed as a character and the unfolding mystery plot overwhelms most of the book. As a mystery/ghost story it's not a bad read but fairly tame if your a diehard paranormal mystery fan. Overall the book held my attention well enough for a sleepy Sunday but it wasn't anything to rave about.

Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shape-shifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta. Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shape-shifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute - and they’ll pay him in medicine.

As this is number six in the series, I'm going to assume you're already familiar with these books by the time you purchase this instalment. Given this, you'll probably understand what I mean when I say, after finishing this all I could think was I WANT MORE!!!

Magic Rises is another fantastic fast paced, action packed Kate Daniels novel. Highlights include: a look into the European shifters, a clearer picture of Hugh Deambre and Kate performing some neat new tricks with her magic. I'll state the obvious, this was definitely worth the credit.

Malcolm, head of the vampire Church of Eternal Life, is no particular friend to Anita Blake. So when he shows up in her office, to ask for her help against creatures so feared that no vampire will willingly speak their name, Anita is surprised. But she believes him. Malcolm may not be a Master of the City, but he's an old and powerful vampire, a leader of men, and he does not easily ask for help - especially from Anita and Jean-Claude, whose power Malcolm considers corrupt.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Like many Anita Blake fans, I am disappointed by Hamiltons apparent fixation on Anita's sex life. At first I thought the ardeur concept was probably just a convenient way to add a few more sex scenes to the books, but I feel like its the only issue addressed in recencent Anita books. The sex scenes go on for chapter after chapter and are followed by long, tedious examinations of Anita's ever increasing sexual appetite. I loved the first 9 books or so in this series and I'm really hoping that the series will improve again

Genevieve Buchanan inherited a castle—and a ghost to go along with it. But Kendrick de Piaget was no typical ghost. He was a handsome and infuriatingly arrogant 13th-century knight. At first, he wanted to frighten Genevieve, though she was more charmed than scared by his ghostly tricks. But when his thoughts turned to wooing her instead, Genevieve had to face her greatest fear: falling in love.

    "A bit lame"
    Overall

The plot was fairly interesting but the romance was a bit juvenile. It was nice in a 'little girl dreaming of her knight in shining armor' kinda way, but it was a bit lame.

    "Not as good"
    Overall

I have really enjoyed this whole series, but I thought this installment wasn't as good as the other books. The main characters (Brock & Jenna) were not well developed and the plot failed to pick up the on going 'Dragos vs The Order' theme. It seemed almost as if the author has written this book without a clear idea of where she intends the series plot to go.

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night---or this man---is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed---a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

    "Like BDB but better"
    Overall

The series is similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood but not as intense. Adrian has kept a good balance between fantasy and romance in these books which, in my opinion, makes them more engaging then the BDB series. Enough romance to keep me caring about Lucan and Gabrielle's story, but enough action to keep their story interesting.

Another fantastic SEP novel, its a pity Colin was read with possibly the worst English accent I have ever heard.

Bar owner Kevin Kowalski is used to women throwing their phone numbers at him, but lately he's more interested in finding a woman to settle down with. A woman like Beth Hansen. If only their first meeting hadn't gone so badly. Beth's tending bar at a wedding when she comes face-to-face with a tuxedo-clad man she never thought she'd see again. She tries to keep her distance from Kevin but, by last call, she can't say no to his too-blue eyes or the invitation back to his room.

    "So irritating"
    Overall

I really liked the other two books in this series, so I was really surprised by this book. The heroine of the story put me right off. Perhaps if her character was better explained or if she came across as anything but completely emotionally shallow the book would have been tolerable.

Best-selling author Rachel Gibson is acclaimed for her quick-witted and endearing romances. True Love and Other Disasters begins as the Seattle Chinooks hockey team owner dies, bequeathing the team to his young widow, Faith. Faith is determined to be taken seriously as the owner, and she’s not going to let anyone—especially dreamy star player Ty Savage—get in her way.

    "Disappointed"
    Overall

I have loved all of this authors books so far. This is why I was disappointed to realise that this book has an almost identical story line to SEP's It Had To Be You. SEP wrote a fantastic book and Rachel Gibson has written a really good imitation.
