"Finished it too fast"
I have missed the "just Jennifer" books - Books that she has written with other authors are OK, but I prefer the ones she writes by herself.
Really enjoyed the book - it is not the best of the ones she has written but still very good. The narrator is excellent.
"Not really much of a mystery"
This story seems to really be mostly about the history of country western stars like Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. The mystery part really was small and really easily figured out. The narrators did a good job but the two stories running together about the murdered woman and her friend were rather irritating and I could not really llike either woman.
"Another SEP that doesn't measure up"
For a long time anything that SEP wrote I bought immediately and loved and re-read often. This one is part of what is becoming just so-so books from a formerly great writer. The last three-four books have been disappointing and this one continues the trend. There were characters that seemed re-cycled from older books, seemingly token PC inclusions - a multi-racial child, gay relationship, veterans with PST - really?? These are important issues, but here seemed to be just included as a way of checking off a list. The e-book was far shorter than some of her other ones, but seemed to drag, to the point I actually fast forwarded twice.
I will not be re-listening to this book and cannot recommend it.
"Uneven but held my interest"
Concept was interesting and most of the story held my interest. However, it seemed to drag in spots and the ending just seemed not to fit the rest of the story. The whole book held supernatural elements that ran through the whole book until the end. There are two time periods and both were handled very well - there was no confusion as to which period you were in. Somehow though when it was over I felt that there were unanswered questions.
"Average at best"
The book is well written.
It was just so average. Change the names and occupations and it could have been any of a number of romance books out on the market.
I guess my standards have been set by Jennifer Crusie and Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I just expect more out of a book.
"Unlikable"
Don't think so. Good narrator, but if this book is any indication of Ms. Coulter's other books, I will pass.
Probably not.
All of them - there was no character with any charm. The earl is a spoiled jerk and Frances is a somewhat whiny victim. The almost rape scenes where she was suppose to do her wifely duties were drawn out and distasteful.
"Hard to finish"
I had a difficult time finishing this book - hard to put into words exactly why, other than I really did not like any of the characters. I really did not care to keep reading to find out more about them. It is well written, but had little charm.
"Could not finish"
I could not finish this book - I realized that I was so irritated at Cassie and the way she was written that I had to quit. She is suppose to be this 35 year old New York ad executive, but she was portrayed as a bumbling, awkward girl. Sorry - I guess I like a little spice in my books - this one was way too simplistic.
"Disappointing"
I was eagerly waiting for this book to come out. Ms Phillips as been one of my favorite writers - I have read every book she has written, but I have to say that I was very disappointed. The main character seemed to be a weak copy of Blue from Natural Born Charmer with more of a victim personality. There was almost no development of Lucy, who dropped out of sight almost immediately. In past books there were multiple stories going on and each one was a mini story in its own right. A lot of the same characters were in this one, but it was almost token representation. I will listen to this once more at a later time - sometimes a re-read will bring out things that was missed, but will probably delete from my library.
"Average"
This an OK book to listen to. A little juvenile in places, but it kept my attention enough to finish. Don't think I will be looking for other books by this author.
