this was not a book about the man in the iron mask. it was 21 hours plus about the four muskateers the iron mask took up about one hour. If i had read the reviews first I would have known However I was going on the assumption from the movie adaptions that this would be about that story. if you are looking for an book about the iron mask this is not it. this is just more muskateers and their story. not a bad book but not what I was looking for and paid for and spent all that time listening to and waiting for me mask which never came.
interesting background on rome etc during that period; story dragged some
the goings on in the hospital and market and brothels if they were true were enlightening
simon vance was good to a point until he spoke for Tilla and sometimes reverted to an irish accent. would have been better if he just kept to his normal speaking, it distracted one from the character and what she was saying because it did not fit. I have listened to other vance books and they were great. not sure what happened here
no reaction. will not pursue the series because I could better spend my time on better books.
this is okay for those of us who know little about north africa, but too much unimportant information that has nothing to do with the acutal operation
basic info about war in north africa and morroco conditions during it
the narrator kept switching accents with different characters but he was horrible and wold mix french with english and then southern . would have been better if he did away with the accents and just read the book. the accents were very distracting because they were so bad I would recommend someone read this book or find another narrator.
read it and dont listen to this version
overall the story is great. I had read another and decided I needed to start from the beginning and I did. all should start with this one to get her background, and this first case is very interesting and intriguing. Good historical background information on WWI.
cannot wait for #11 from james patterson and lindsey and her womens murder club also more about joe
great book and interesting plot; will read next in series to follow liam and his exploits
this is a great story that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in stories not told or forgotten about wwII.
the narrator was terrific and the story keeps you wanting more; which I will certainly continue with inspector gamache in the next book
I learned a great deal especially since i never knew about dodd. it was eye opening to read about the politics of the time and how it affected our pre war attitudes and responses and actions. a sad insight into america and it views when we should have been doing more.
the suspense never lets up, cannot wait to read the next installment. the narrator is terrific. I recommend to whomever likes a thriller taking place in a country other than england or usa. tom rob smith is terrific.
