I actually prefer a good "local" mystery to the all over-the-top stories about mega-serial killers who torture and maim without ever seeming to be seen... Yes, some of the Big stories are fun too, but there can be plenty of intrigue without all that. And it's typically more believable. This story had good characters, and some interesting views into another culture. I didn't rate it higher only because i felt the pacing was a little slow, but i enjoyed the book and would recommend it. (Would have given 3 and 1/2 if that were possible.)
I've thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series. The one before this was good, but i did not think was the best. This one is pretty damn good. I must say however, i felt there was one weak point in the end that bothered me a little, so i didn't give 5 stars, but otherwise, this is a great listen. I'll be back for more. Recommended
I'm not that impartial, i enjoy this character so pretty easy to please, but i did enjoy this one a bit more than the last. If you've liked the other Virgil books, you'll like this one i think. Recommended.
I've enjoyed this author, sometimes more than others. I think this was worth a listen, but really only average.
The whole story-line with the autistic child was a strange side-bar for this story, but for the most part, i think it all worked. I won't call it my favorite, narration was a bit stiff, but i'll consider this author again. Recommended
I was worried about this being a bit 'stodgy' for my tastes, but the pace and story was good, Most of the characters enjoyable and fun, and the annoying characters were mostly kept to a minimum. Recommended
I'm listening to this series in order and haven't found one i didn't love. The narration is dead-on perfect, and the stories are great. This story seemed a bit 'lighter' to me, compared to some of the others. I still enjoyed it, but just didn't have the same punch as some. Recommended, but not if you're only gonna get one of them.
I enjoyed this book, but it didn't make me seek out more by the author either. It was a little stilted in places: a bit stereo-typical with too many characters, a couple plot points i felt were weak, but i'm overall, not bad. It did have some good mystery too it, so i'm glad i got it.
I like this character and always enjoys Sandford's writing. It's nothing phenomenal but never lets me down either. Recommended.
I'm not sorry i listened to this book, but not sure i'd recommend either. It had some good parts, and mostly held my interest, but it seemed a bit flat at times, and the narration just wasn't entertaining.
I've listened to most of this series, but kind of gave up because the formula started getting a bit annoying... the Bosses yell, and don't listen, the papers blame the cops for not solving crimes the day they happen, and Logan never, ever gets a day off. Of course, there are some great parts to this series - primary among that is the funny characters, like Steel, but i guess the annoying parts just got too repetitive for me. Anyway, it's been a couple years so i thought i'd try another, and i'm kind of sorry i did. The formula is still the same, and this one wasn't quite as funny. And the previous narrator seemed better to me as well.
