  • Narcissus in Chains: Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 10

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Laurell K Hamilton
    • Narrated By Cynthia Holloway

SIx months have passed since Anita Blake has seen either Jean-Claude or Richard. Six months of celibacy. Six months of indecision. Six months of danger. For her body carries the marks of both vampire and werewolf, and until the triumvirate is consummated, all three remain vulnerable. But when a kidnapper targets innocents that Anita has sworn to protect, she needs all the help she can get. In an earth-shattering union, Anita, Jean-Claude, and Richard merge the marks - and melt into one another.

    "A Butchered Mess"

This is the worse edit job I have ever seen. The title character, Narcissus was cut from the book along with Zabrowski, Dolph, Damien, Gretchen and Asher.
People inexplicably disappear: Claudia, Egor, Merle and Zane) and appear (Bobby Lee and Chris). There are blindingly obvious holes. One paragraph Anita and Richard in the lupinar fighting and the next at her house having sex! What happened to Gregory in the obillette and after he was released? What happened to Jacob, Paris and Richard's pack?
Anita woke up in the morning then met with shifters in the late afternoon then was going to bed that night. The sunny windowed kitchen changed into a dark boarded up room. (The most exciting fight of the book deleted!)
Worse of all, the major point of the book was to show how Micah became Anita's second man behind Jean Claude and before Richard. 75% of their story is missing. Without it, Anita ends up risking the rats, leopards and wolves for a stranger she had sex with a couple of times. What about Micah and Jean Claude's first meeting?
Damian's story is essential to the rest of the series but it's gone.
I know that this is Ms Hamilton's least favorite Anita book but this audiobook makes her look disorganized and absent minded. If you haven't read her work before, you would never read another of her books. It should be recalled and reissued unabridged.
Also, it is one of MY favorite books of the series so I feel cheated and want my money back!
