On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

What made the experience of listening to Team of Rivals the most enjoyable?

I think the AMAZING Lincoln made the subject matter wonderful and a MUST for any Lincoln fan. This was/is on my top 5 list at this point.

What did you like best about this story?

I think the book putting together the story of Lincoln using his rivals to assist him and befriend them shows what a man he was. What was even more fantastic was how each of his rivals changed their views of him over time. The book bring to light yet more what a person Lincoln was. I can't say enough about the book or the man.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I have no single favorite. The entire book is a favorite.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

'Words can not describe the man'.

    Any additional comments?

This book was 40 hours long and the truth is I was never wanting to stop for the day. I also think that any movie of this book could NEVER put into 2 or 3 hours that the 40 hours of listen value. I highly recommend this book!!!!

A fresh look at the endlessly fascinating Tudors - the dramatic and overlooked story of Henry VII and his founding of the Tudor Dynasty - filled with spies, plots, counter-plots, and an uneasy royal succession to Henry VIII. Near the turn of the sixteenth century, England had been ravaged for decades by conspiracy and civil war. Henry Tudor clambered to the top of the heap, a fugitive with a flimsy claim to England’s crown who managed to win the throne and stay on it for 24 years.

"A must to anyone interest in the period."

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really loved this one. You must pay attention as not to loose track of the family tree and players, but if you can keep all that straight, it is very great to listen too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It is of coarse about Henry VII most of all. Learned a lot about the man and although he is not a beloved character, he was sure a king that a person would be interested in.

What does Simon Vance bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I found Simon Vance a good listen. Very good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I think the book is long and needs digesting in steps, but I sure did not want to be away from it more then a day or two.

Sarah Vowell's special brand of armchair history makes the bizarre and esoteric fascinatingly relevant and fun. She takes us from the modern-day reenactment of an Indian massacre to the Mohegan Sun casino, from old-timey Puritan poetry, where "righteousness" is rhymed with "wilderness," to a Mayflower-themed waterslide. Throughout, The Wordy Shipmates is rich in historical fact, humorous insight, and social commentary by one of America's most celebrated voices.

What would have made The Wordy Shipmates better?

I think the narration left A LOT to be desired. Sarah Vowell may want to stick to writing and avoid narration. I found her voice hard to listen too.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I just think her book needed some re-thinking. Although the subject matter was of importance, I think the way it was presented in the book needed to be re-evaluated.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found her voice very difficult to listen too for any length of time and additional voices a distraction.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointed!

    Any additional comments?

I will not listen to a book that Sarah Vowell narrated again. I can't say the first book I downloaded of her has made me any kind of fan. I felt the money was not well spent at all on this one.

The anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America's Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln's generous terms for Robert E. Lee's surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln's dream of healing a divided nation. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices are not appeased....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I found the book was a good addition to my information on Lincoln. Enjoyable enough that I do recommend a listen.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not much of way for a spoiler to the ending of this book.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Bill O'Reilly?

I likely would if the subject matter is fact based and not political in nature.

Do you think Killing Lincoln needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It needs no follow-up. It is what it is.
