    After a suggestion from a friend, I got the first two books for my grandchildren. Then I decided to listen so I could discuss it with them and I really enjoyed the story.

    Partly the narration. Emily Bauer did a great job of putting just the right amount of emotion into the story.

    Creole Belle begins where the last book in the Dave Robicheaux series, The Glass Rainbow, ended. Dave is in a recovery unit in New Orleans, where a Creole girl named Tee Jolie Melton visits him and leaves him an iPod with the country blues song “Creole Belle” on it. Then she disappears. Dave becomes obsessed with the song and the memory of Tee Jolie and goes in search of her sister, who later turns up inside a block of ice floating in the Gulf.

    Would you try another book from Dan Wells and/or John Allen Nelson?

    No. The story may be good, but I couldn't tell. The narrator reads as though every sentence ends with an exclamation mark. It was so annoying that I had to stop listening. I could not appreciate the story.

    Good story, great performance.


    What about Stephen J. Cannell’s performance did you like?

    I usually shy away from books read by the author. They may be great writers, but they are usually lousy readers. Cannell is the exception. He can write AND he breathes life into his writing when he reads.
