I would not get this unless you are a die hard fan of the story (as I am).

This is a great story,because it's true.

Pileggi does a decent job as the reader,but I don't think he was the best choice.

Beware of the "actors" playing various characters. They do a horrendous job! Accents way off,inflection bad,just awful casting. I look forward to an unabridged version with a professional narrator (actor) and appropriate casting if needed. I prefer one reader doing all the characters myself.

This is one of the better listens I've had here. If you are a dog person,or just like dogs at all,you will enjoy this book. The more of a dog person you are,the better it is.

When Chet was at the shelter,I was on the edge of my seat.

Chet is the star of the story.

Get this, and you won't be disappointed.

This is a great companion to "Gaspipe confessions of a mafia boss". The author of that book presents a skewed and too kind picture of Anthony Casso. "The Brotherhoods", gives a more accurate picture. The 2 main characters are horrible human beings,but the story is a great listen. I just wish the narrator would pronounce Casso's name correctly. Drove me nuts! Get it,you won't be dissapointed.

This is the second book I have listened to with this reader.I didn't realize it was him until it was too late. He has almost no inflection, and is as monotone as can be.

A great story if you like mob stories which I do. At the end, she just stops, like there was a pot boiling on the stove or something. Maybe there's a sequel in the works? I want to hear the rest dammit!

If you're not a scientist or otherwise very well educated, this is not for you. I had a very hard time making it all the way to the end of this book.

Yes there is much talk of NYC politics, and it does go into painstaking detail at times. This is all part of the building of The Great East River Bridge. This is a story of great proprtions, and of engineering at a time when talk of such a bridge was akin to science fiction today. The Brooklyn Bridge still stands tall today, and is excellent shape after almost 125 years of service. If you're even thinking of listening to this one, i say do it.

A great book and a great narrator. What more can you ask for? I only wish there were more of Melville's sea adventure books available as audio books.

This book has been transferred from cassette and it shows. The audio gets louder and lower, is warbly at times, and occasionally sentences are repeated (as if someone lost their place when transferring it). Still it is a great story, and Melville paints such beautiful pictures with his writing.I wish there was a better version, but until then, don't waste your time/money/credit on this edition. Try the unabridged "Moby Dick" as read by Adams Morgan instead.
