The first book, "Last Light" was entertaining, but the heavy handed method of preaching was annoying. The Christian message the author was trying to convey could have been done more subtly and more effectively. The second book, "Night Light", was not as good and the survival scenario seems a bit unrealistic. This book has a fairly predictable plot and is less interesting than the second book. I do not plan to get the fourth one in this series.

All her characterizations are some of the best I ever heard. Claire's is the most familiar because of the long first person sections.

It is a bit frustrating to see the characters continue doing stupid things. I realize this is necessary to set up the scenes. Their low levels of emotional maturity lead to a lot of misunderstandings, often with dire consequences. Again, I realize the necessity of these interactions to set up the scenes. The series of books, this one included, are some of my favorites. I recommend them highly.

The protagonist, Cassie and the people with whom she "lives" are multi-faceted, flawed people. The story was very unusual.

All Ms. French's novels are complex and full of real characters with contradictions and flaws.

It is the best performance of all the audible editions of Ms. French's novels. It took me right into the scenes and I appreciated the accents and different voices. I hope Ms. O'Neill will be used as a narrator in future books.

Yes, it is interesting and complex. Ms. French has a talent for writing exceptional mysteries and this is my second favorite after "Likeness".

This, the first in a four part series dealing with EMP-like effects of pulses from an exploding star, is the best one. The characters are far less than perfect, and the suspense level is fairly well done. The outcome is predictable and the preaching is a bit heavy-handed. I recommend reading this one, maybe the next one, but would most likely avoid the third and fourth ones in this series.

This book,an EMP survival story, is reasonably well done. The organization level achieved by the protagonists, as well as the antagonists, seemed a but exaggerated given the time frame. The horrendous level of starvation was probably realistic. This is one of the better works dealing with such a scenario.
