A literary icon sometimes seen as a bridge between the Beat Generation and the hippies, Ken Kesey scored an unexpected hit with his first novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. His successful follow-up, Sometimes a Great Notion, was also transformed into a major motion picture, directed by and starring Paul Newman. Here, Oregon’s Stamper family does what it can to survive a bitter strike dividing their tiny logging community. And as tensions rise, delicate family bonds begin to fray and unravel.

Would you try another book from Ken Kesey and/or Tom Stechschulte?

I am not sure if it was the writer's style or the narration, but I just could not "get to know" any of the characters. Certainly the narration left me cold to all the characters (the voices were totally unrealistic). I just didn't care what happened to them. No point in spending my time (or points).

Would you be willing to try another book from Ken Kesey? Why or why not?

Yes, I would 'try' another book by this author read by another narrator or the Kindle edition (on sale). The story sounded good in the description, and I know most people say the liked the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tom Stechschulte’s performances?

    Probably not.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

None whatsoever. I just didn't care to know where it was going.

Blue Echohawk doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know her real name or when she was born. Abandoned at two and raised by a drifter, she didn't attend school until she was ten years old. At nineteen, when most kids her age are attending college or moving on with life, she is just a senior in high school. With no mother, no father, no faith, and no future, Blue Echohawk is a difficult student, to say the least.

If you could sum up A Different Blue in three words, what would they be?

    A Different Blue

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved all of the scenes with Jimmy and Blue together

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Blue's prayer

    Any additional comments?

Often the book jacket art turns me off, I probably miss a lot of good reads because of that. This cover did not influence me one way or the other, until I was about half way through the book. This cover art was perfect! The mood of the book is in the eyes of the woman on the cover.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Stephen King was quoted as saying, "“I recognize terror as the finest emotion and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I'll go for the gross-out. I'm not proud. ”
    Enough said.

Would you recommend Dreamcatcher to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Well, maybe. I know some who would like this book. I certainly would not discourage anyone from trying it. It just was not for me.

What does Jeffrey DeMunn bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very good narrator. I would enjoy listening to other performances by him. Listening is never the same as reading, and for me it is not ever as good. I listen, because it is hard to read a book while you are driving, washing dishes or mowing the lawn.

Did Dreamcatcher inspire you to do anything?

Search Audible for another book. Maybe even another King or maybe something else. I know his work well enough to know I may absolutely love the next one.

    Any additional comments?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading King, but I expect to enjoy some more than others. I am not his only audience. One of his great talents is that he can successfully write novels in a way that no one can really say about a book, "That is a typical Stephen King novel". There is no such thing.

What disappointed you about The Girl Who Played with Fire?

I spent over 12 hours for this novel to start living up to the first one in the trilogy, it just wasn't getting there, in fact it was going nowhere.

Has The Girl Who Played with Fire turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. But I will not buy the other one in this trilogy.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

It was about as good as the story.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Maybe near the end, but I wouldn't know 12+ hours was more than enough for me. VERY disappointed, because I loved Dragon.

If you could sum up Me Before You in three words, what would they be?

    Ordinary life, in extraordinary circumstances.

What did you like best about this story?

    The End

Have you listened to any of Susan Lyons’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Her narration of this book was excellent, don't know about others.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did. I was very judgmental of all the characters. Once I got past that I was able to laugh and cry. How could this situation not be a source of humor and of tears.

Divorced from his own wife and carrying on halfheartedly with another man's, saddled with a bum knee and friends who make enemies redundant, Sully now has one new problem to cope with: a long-estranged son who is in imminent danger of following in his father's footsteps. With its sly and uproarious humor and a heart that embraces humanity's follies as well as its triumphs, Nobody's Fool is storytelling at its most generous.

Would you listen to Nobody's Fool again? Why?

    Yes, twice already!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nobody's Fool?

    Sully and Will.

Which character – as performed by Ron McLarty – was your favorite?

Sully, of course, but Mrs Beryl was essential to the story. Loved her!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Sorry, but I thought the film was a waste of my time. Maybe if I had not read the book I would have enjoyed it, However, the film only touched on this story. I was looking forward to the film. Paul Newman was the perfect choice for the Sully character. But it was only a teaser. If you have seen the movie, don't think you have "read the book". Not by a long shot!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. However I would tell them that the DIALOG between characters was sometime not realistic. The story is very good and very believable and for those who care about such things, it was scripturally sound.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brink of Chaos?

There was one but it would be a spoiler to mention it.

What does Stefan Rudnicki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was VERY good, which, to me, means I felt that I WAS reading the book. I really don't want a narrator to interpret the book for me. Stefan Rudnicki does not seem to try to do that. The narration was very smooth and not at all distracting.

Could you see Brink of Chaos being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I certain could see the book being made into a movie. I have no opinion about the actors, because I don't know them, I rarely watch movies.

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really. The story takes CeeCee from a horrible existence to an almost perfect one. In that way is resembles the run-of-the-mill romance story. It is a Cinderella story and most of my friends have read that already.

If you’ve listened to books by Beth Hoffman before, how does this one compare?

I have not read others. She did a good job on this one.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The garden party.

Do you think Saving Ceecee Honeycutt needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

The book was worth reading if you just want some light entertainment.

Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly-up.

What did you like best about She's Come Undone? What did you like least?

Best: The story is excellent. This author creates very believable characters. Least: Linda Stephens' performance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of the characters have something to love and much to dislike about them.

What didn’t you like about Linda Stephens’s performance?

Linda's performance was not that of a professional reader. Her voice is pleasant. But her reading was awful. Periods and commas where used in exactly the same way, and in many cases are added to the reading in inappropriate places (by Linda, not by the author). It was very distracting. I almost stopped reading because of it. Then the story grabbed me and stopping was not an option. Linda has the voice, she needs training and practice.

Could you see She's Come Undone being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Movie was a great idea. As for characters; I would have no idea how to second guess the professionals, since I rarely watch a movie and do not know who the current actors are.

    Any additional comments?

I hope there will be a remake of this audio book with a different narrator, or a trained, experienced Linda Stephens.
