"Oldie but Goodie!"
I vaguely remember reading the book back in the 80's, I have seen and enjoyed the movie dozens of times but listening to the book was more fun than I anticipated. I'm not a purist when it comes to adapting books to movies and I appreciated the adaptions made in the translation of this title. The movie is fabulous in it's own right but listening to the book let my imagination visually soar. Scott Brick reading was phenomenal as ever. His inflections throughout the story are spot on - I have a bad habit of gasping at exciting points in the storyline while listening to a point my husband thinks something is wrong with me. The storyline is just one entertaining wild ride. Another very much enjoyed audiobook that I would recommend!
"Read this Book - It is a Wonder!"
I can't hardly believe this is a first book ... this author made magic on the page come to life ... what a wonderfully imaginative and fresh way to spin a tale about mythical characters that make you think your hearing about them for the very first time ... the historical time frame was woven in the story perfectly ... I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book ... fresh, imaginative, creative - adjectives just escape me ... George Guidall did a masterful reading of this title ... forget what ever else you have a your wish list move this title to the top of your list & listen to this book - you won't regret it.
"Scared the Pants Off Me But I Couldn't Put It Down"
What a fabulous book ... Kate Mulgrew did a spectacular job with this reading - it felt more like a dramatization than just an unabridged audiobook ... one of the best readings I have ever listened to .. I don't necessarily go in for this type of book but I was hooked from the get go ... this was my first Joe Hill title and I thoroughly enjoyed it ... I listened to it in 3 days ofter waking up at 3am just to get an hour in before I'd fall back to sleep then I'd start back at it again when the alarm would go off ... what a great scare it gave - I don't like books that give you nightmares that have violence for violence sakes ... this book was well written and I felt the characters were handled in a comprehensive way and not merely in a shove it in your face shocking sort of way ... thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it! ... thanks to Joe Hill for a fabulous thriller and a wicked big thanks to Kate Mulgrew for 19+ wicked exciting hours of listening!
"A good mystery"
I have insomnia so I listen to books in the middle of the night - I like to be read back to sleep ... well I can not recommend this book for that purpose ... I started this book at 1:30 in the morning for the second time thinking I could sleep thru it ... no such luck! ... 4 hours later I realized I was hooked - AGAIN! ... my preference leans to straight up fast paced mystery-thrillers and this one is a very entertaining story - good twists and turns without feeling like your lost in the plot ... Kate Reading does a superb job reading the story ... another fun listen!
"What a great addition to the Issac Bell series!"
Clive Cussler keeps this series fresh and exciting with another great addition to the Issac Bell series ... I can't put any of the books in this series in any particular favorite order as they all are wicked entertaining ... Scott Brick does it again too - he is a fabulous reader ... this book is set before the first book in the series, "The Chase", and gives us a look at Issac Bell in his early years as a detective but I would not recommend reading the series out of order if you plan to read the entire series ... thanks Clive Cussler & Justin Scott for another hang on to the seat of your pants fun book!
"Another Fabulos Maggie Hope Mystery!"
I have already recommended this series and book ... it is a great story & listen ... the narrator is very animated and you know just from her vocalizations who the character is speaking ... it is a very well thought out mystery with some great twists and turns ... I love the continued respect given by the author for this strong female character ... this series makes me think of of Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs series ... this is a great all round mystery!
Good pacing with the mystery plot ... you remember, know & are ready to hear the story from the beginning of the narration of the story
This series is definitely worth the credits!
"Another Great Lady Julia Gray Novel"
This is the fifth book in the Lady Julia Gray series by Deanna Raybourn and it very much lives up to the quality of the rest of the series. I bought the first audiobook in the series on the recommendation of my fabulous local librarian. She was right! It is a marvelous series with one book after the other continuing to capture and hold my interest. I listened to the first five books in the series over an eight day period. I can't say I have a favorite out of this series as they have all been equally great stories and fun listens. I very much enjoy the reader Ellen Archer. She has a great cadence and vocally interprets the characters very well. I can hardly wait for book 6. Don't hesitate to try any book in this series!
"Enjoyed my first steampunk novel!"
I am very interested in history, especially the Victorian era. Steampunk was recommended to me quite awhile ago but I have been hesitant to read any. This book title, Soulless: Alexia Tarabotti, Bk 1 by Gail Carriger, was on sale so I figured "What the heck - give it a go!" Well blow me down - I found this book very pleasurable! I feared the twist on history in this genre might be preposterous but this book was very believable and not to far fetched. The story on the whole was a rousing rollick and I am impressed with the strong female character. I am looking forward to listening to more Steampunk genre books. The reader was very good and it made for a fun listen. It is a great book for adults but this book/series would be a marvelous title for young adults that might be a tad reluctant to read. I would recommend you give this book/series a try!
"Sit on the edge of your seat for this one!"
I am having so much fun listening to books I read back in the 70's & 80's. This is one book that I remember curling up to read back in the 70's and loving the many many hours it took to read cover to cover. I enjoyed listening to this book recently as much as I did reading it the first time. The reader made the storyline very exciting causing me to stay awake much longer than I should have. This was a riveting listen and I would definitely recommend this book. Another very good listening experience.
"What a fun story to listen to!"
Take historical/literary characters you might have head of, add fictitious imaginary lands from bed time stories your Grandmother might have told you when you were a wee one, mix them all up and you get this phenomenal story. Nothing stereotypical about this blending. The reader James Langton is beyond marvelous! James A. Owen's imaginative story and James Langton's brilliant narration make a five star listen.
