This is the fifth book in the Lady Julia Gray series by Deanna Raybourn and it very much lives up to the quality of the rest of the series. I bought the first audiobook in the series on the recommendation of my fabulous local librarian. She was right! It is a marvelous series with one book after the other continuing to capture and hold my interest. I listened to the first five books in the series over an eight day period. I can't say I have a favorite out of this series as they have all been equally great stories and fun listens. I very much enjoy the reader Ellen Archer. She has a great cadence and vocally interprets the characters very well. I can hardly wait for book 6. Don't hesitate to try any book in this series!
I started the novel but an ear infection slowed my iPod listening down, but it did not dampen my enjoyment ... what a marvelous trilogy - "Solomon's Song" concluded this series without leaving me wondering or wanting ... Humphrey Bower gave an exemplary reading throughout bring each character to a satisfying fullness making it so easy to keep up with all the personalities ... Bryce Courtenay wrote a brilliant trilogy that kept my attention book one thru book three - rest your soul, your talent will be missed ... I highly recommend this trilogy whether you like fiction, historical fiction, Australian fiction or just a rousing good story - it crosses so many genres ... I hope folks will enjoy this trilogy in the future as much as I did!
I finished Bryce Courtenay's 1st book in this series quickly - I was blown away ... I have just spent the last two days listening to Tommo & Hawk, book 2 in the Australian Trilogy - I have been thoroughly captured by this series ... my only critique is that it was just a little slow in the middle ... I'm sitting here stunned how this book ended while I wait for the 3rd book, Solomon's Song, to download - thank goodness for high speed download ... Humphrey Bower knocked the narration out of the ballpark again - he brings the characters to life for the listener ... well, book 3 has finally downloaded so I need to run to get it on my iPod so I can see where Mr. Courtenay will take us on the final leg of this Australian adventure ... holy cow what a good series!
I have just spent the last 23 hours and 24 minutes listening to a novel I will never forget ... the characters are so engrossing - you love them, you hate them, you are revolted and surprised by their actions but you just can't put this book down ... I could hardly get to my computer fast enough to download the second book in the series, Tommo & Hawk ... the narrator, Humphrey Bower, brings each character to life - what a spectacular, enjoyable listen .... Bryce Courtenay writes wicked awesome historical fiction ... I am new to Australian authors and have thoroughly enjoyed them all so far thanks to Bolinda Audio - they publish Kate Morton, which look forward to each one of her new novels & Greig Beck, who I will be listening to next ... book 2 has just started so I need to go get comfortable for my next adventure in Australia!
I don't have a favorite Clive Cussler series - I just love them all! ... CC & Thomas Perry's treatment of the characters is so well done - even the dog is a wicked good character ... I enjoy the pace and content of each of the Fargo Adventure novels ... I just recommended this book and the series to a patron at our local library this evening and she went and got the first three in the series to read this weekend ... Scott Brick knocked it out of the ball park again with a wonderful narration ... looking forward to the next novel in this series!
I think I'd read just about anything Clive Cussler & Jack Du Brul write together ... we aren't talking great literature - we are talking great entertainment! ... Scott Brick is such a great reader - I so enjoy listening to a story read by him ... listening to Scott Brick read a Clive Cussler novel is like going to a totally absorbing movie - you just don't want it to end ... CC & JDB have written another great adventure filled story!
Buckle your seat belt - your in for one hell of a ride ... Preston & Child have done it again - they have written another Pendergast novel that blew my socks off ... I listened to it straight thru (OK, I fell asleep about 1am but started the book right back up at 6am) ... great story, great characters, fabulous reader ... I think I will be listening to all 13 books in the Pendergast series all over again ... thanks to Preston & Child, and of course Rene Auberjonois - it was a wicked good book and very entertaining!!!
I throughly enjoyed this novel - I hope the first of many more novels in this new series … great story, absorbing characters, great pace, phenomenal reader … I haven't enjoyed a novel this much in awhile … this is the first novel I've heard Piers Wehner narrate and it was exceptional - he made it hard to have to turn off my iPod … John Matthews has written two new great historical fiction characters, Finley Jameson & Joseph Argenti, and I look forward to the next adventure! … I highly recommend "Letters from a Murderer"!!!
I can't hardly believe this is a first book ... this author made magic on the page come to life ... what a wonderfully imaginative and fresh way to spin a tale about mythical characters that make you think your hearing about them for the very first time ... the historical time frame was woven in the story perfectly ... I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book ... fresh, imaginative, creative - adjectives just escape me ... George Guidall did a masterful reading of this title ... forget what ever else you have a your wish list move this title to the top of your list & listen to this book - you won't regret it.
What a fabulous book ... Kate Mulgrew did a spectacular job with this reading - it felt more like a dramatization than just an unabridged audiobook ... one of the best readings I have ever listened to .. I don't necessarily go in for this type of book but I was hooked from the get go ... this was my first Joe Hill title and I thoroughly enjoyed it ... I listened to it in 3 days ofter waking up at 3am just to get an hour in before I'd fall back to sleep then I'd start back at it again when the alarm would go off ... what a great scare it gave - I don't like books that give you nightmares that have violence for violence sakes ... this book was well written and I felt the characters were handled in a comprehensive way and not merely in a shove it in your face shocking sort of way ... thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it! ... thanks to Joe Hill for a fabulous thriller and a wicked big thanks to Kate Mulgrew for 19+ wicked exciting hours of listening!
I have insomnia so I listen to books in the middle of the night - I like to be read back to sleep ... well I can not recommend this book for that purpose ... I started this book at 1:30 in the morning for the second time thinking I could sleep thru it ... no such luck! ... 4 hours later I realized I was hooked - AGAIN! ... my preference leans to straight up fast paced mystery-thrillers and this one is a very entertaining story - good twists and turns without feeling like your lost in the plot ... Kate Reading does a superb job reading the story ... another fun listen!
