I have never disliked any book/story from Mr Card before the one. The story felt forced and I did not really connect to the characters , except for Bean and only due to the other books in the series. I found the afterword more interesting then the story. To readers new to the enderverse start with the beginning on the shadow series or Ender's Game. I think that only real enderverse fans will appreciate this book and even then will not be high on the reread list.
This is a good place to start if you are interested in learning about ISIS and radical Islam. But for people who follow these issues closely there is little to learn in this book.
I loved the the 1959 film version, staring Charlton Heston, of this book and was very excited to see it here on Audible. So far I have attempted to listen to it 5 times. I really want to like this book. Thinking it might be the narrator I checked out a copy of the book at my local library and the problem is not the narrator. The story is hung together a series of coincidences that I can not believe. The characters from the movie that I love in the book I do not care about. They are hollow and the dialog is tedious.
I can honestly say for the first time that I like the movie version of a book better the the book itself.
I was really disappointed with this book. The author at times rambled about his social and political views, and in the second part of the book, there were whole 20 to 30 minute sections, where The Simpsons were not even mentioned at all. The book goes so far afield that we even get a 10 minute dissertation on Michael Moore's "bowling for Columbine" and the evil of SUVs. If you're looking for a book that's really about the Simpson then I suggest "My Life as a 10-Year-Old Boy" by Nancy Cartwright. her book is biographical form but still has a lot of interesting information about what goes on behind the scenes with the Simpsons.
