Bayern has triumphed in its war with Tira. But though the war is over, simmering anger remains among the Tirans and new hostilities could erupt at any moment. In a desperate attempt to maintain the peace, King Geric sends an ambassador to the Tiran capitol. Of course, an ambassador needs a military guard. Razo - short, impish, and not at all skilled at combat - longs to be among those selected to go, but thinks he has no chance. So he is astounded when Captain Talone taps him to join the group. He’s even more astounded when he discovers the secret reason for Talone’s decision.

I really enjoyed this story in the Bayern Books. It was great to see how Razo's giftings came out and they weren't the mystical type. This book was funny and my family and I laughed out loud many times. Every time Razo realized he was good at something I was happy for him. This book reminded me a lot of the tv program "Psych." I would definitely recommend this book. Shannon Hale is a great author and the team of actors voicing the story are the same voices as the first two books. Good series and this book might be my favorite.....after "Goose Girl."

In a discontent kingdom, civil war is brewing. To unify the divided people, Conner, a nobleman of the court, devises a cunning plan to find an impersonator of the king's long-lost son and install him as a puppet prince. Three orphans are recruited to compete for the role, including a defiant boy named Sage. Sage knows that Conner's motives are more than questionable, yet his life balances on a sword's point he must be chosen to play the prince or he will certainly be killed. But Sage's rivals have their own agendas as well.

We liked this book! I liked that Sage was his own person and never changed his character throughout the story. The book made and answered a lot of questions. Excellent listen! The narrarator did a great job too! My daughter commented that it was similar to "The Goose Girl" which happens to be one of my favorites.

Set in medieval times, the story is about an orphan who is trained to be the prince who will be crowned King. The orphan(Sage) has more character than everyone gives him credit for. I can't wait to listen to book 2!

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

    Story

Ender's Game is an interesting story about super smart kids in an adult world. I let my teenager listen but not my younger kids. It's not really a children's book. Ender is taken to a battle school where he excels in all the training and has a hard time socially because of it. This is definitely an underdog story. It also raises a lot of ethical questions that are good discussion points. If this were a movie it would probably be rated R because there is a lot of graphic violence, some nudity and some cussing. I believe a movie is being made and I hope they take out the words and nudity because the story is a good story and I think my kids would like to see it.

Ever since running away at the age of fourteen, Paul-Edward, the son of a white landowner and a black slave, has had one dream: to own land every bit as good as his daddy's. While growing up, Paul-Edward loved, and feared, his father, but he loved the land unconditionally. Then, after a rash act of youthful rebellion, he leaves his family behind and vows to succeed on his own. However, for anyone black coming of age in 1880's Mississippi, this is no simple goal.

    Story

This is a great story about a man whose daddy was white and mama was a black Native American. Both parents love him but because of his color he can't be loved the same way as his white brothers by his daddy. My family listened to this book on a long trip and everyone liked it. My youngest is 10 and oldest is 15. We all were wiping our eyes and cheering for Paul Edward Logan. GOOD story! The narrator was awesome!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Goose Girl to be better than the print version?

I haven't tried the print version.

What other book might you compare The Goose Girl to and why?

Maybe the first Percy Jackson book. The heroine doesn't know who she is and has a low opinion of herself. By the end she transforms.

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Bishop and the Full Cast Family ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I really loved the character voices in this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moments that made me cry, laugh and down right nervous!

    Any additional comments?

The author did a great job of retelling the fairy tale. The original story put a lot of questions in your mind. Shannon Hale answered every one and was very original with the answers.
This book had it all; action, love, fear, fun moments and frustration. Love, love, Love,LOVE this book! listened to this book two times in a row and it's a pretty long book!

"If this were a normal descriptions for a normal audiobook, I would tell you that this audiobook is fantastic! Gripping! (According to their blurbs, all books are fantastic and gripping.) You'd meet the brave young heroes, Cass and Max Ernest. And you'd hear about how a mysterious box of vials, the symphony of smells, sends them on the trail of a magician who has vanished under strange (and Stinky) circumstances."

If you could sum up The Name of This Book Is Secret in three words, what would they be?

    An entertaining book

What other book might you compare The Name of This Book Is Secret to and why?

The book is similar to the Benedict Society. Of course the kids are the heros that save the world from evil take over.

What does David Pittu bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did a great job reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No

    Any additional comments?

While the under cover names and such was an alluring concept for a book, the first chapter or two almost drove us crazy! It kept trying to convince you not to read the book for your own safety! Which was funny the first few minutes but it seemed to go on and on! Reading the book would have made it easier to skip those pages and move on. The book is good despite the slow start. The idea of smell communication and confusion of the senses was original. You'll like this book if you can make it past the intro.
