Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

    "Tedious"
    Overall

Tiresome book. Filled with useless minutiae. Might be a pretty good story but with some serious editing..... like, eliminate 35% of it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The best book club you’ve never heard of – but will be eager to join, courtesy of a full cast of true characters. January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she's never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb....

Kent says: "MUCH better than I ever expected! Give it a try!"
    "Fine book"
    Overall

I'm a pushover for British accents, so I may be a bit biased, but I loved this book! I loved the character development and progress; I loved the narration. The plot was a little flimsy and predictable, but it was an entertaining, light book. Great for a couple of summer afternoons on the beach.

In this breathtaking and beautiful novel, the #1 New York Times best-selling author Anna Quindlen creates an unforgettable portrait of a mother, a father, a family, and the explosive, violent consequences of what seem like inconsequential actions.

Kimberly says: "Almost Unbearably Sad, Completely Wonderful"
    "Hard to get into."
    Overall

I love Anna Quindlen's writing. So I was a bit disappointed when the beginning of the book dragged. I got it very early that the family's life was pretty average; it didn't need to take the entire Part 1. Once things started happening though, Quindlen's writing became "hers" again.

Detective John Corey now faces his toughest assignment yet: the pursuit and capture of the world's most dangerous terrorist -- a young Arab known as "The Lion" who has baffled a federal task force and shows no sign of stopping in his quest for revenge against the American pilots who bombed Libya and killed his family.

    Patricia says: "Totally predictable"

You sort of knew what was coming, but it was exciting all the same. Loved the audible ending!

To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. He and the Anti-Terrorist Task Force must stop "The Lion," an alleged Libyan terrorist with the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey.

Pulled me in immediately. Fast paced, loaded with action. Scott Brick was excellent; loved that he didn't try to "feminize" his voice for the female characters.
