Touching, steamy, fast-paced love story that tugs at the heart-strings and leaves you saying 'awww' over and over again.
When the characters first got close.
This was a great book. I hunger for more from this author. The narration was also good, although I must say, I did not need to hear them 'cough' or 'clear' their throat then get told that they coughed or cleared their throats. The sounds during the love scenes were great though. A very talented voice actor although, sometimes I could hear when the narrator had paused then come back.
The book was well done though. I don't need a sequel of course, but I look forward to more from this author and this narrator.
It had a lot of heart and the voice actor was good.
There's really nothing to compare it to.
I liked Derrik.
I can't believe anyone gave this a 1 star. That's insane. This story was SOO SOO SOO sweet. I was very apprehensive about the whole 'aging' thing, and age difference. And don't get me wrong, some thoughts were brought up one time too many here or there but it was a cute story. It had me saying 'aww' very often throughout the book. The sex was interesting but I swear, if this book had no sex, I'd still have enjoyed it. Very enjoyable. Good pace. Well done. I look forward to more from this author. Also, the voice actor was surprisingly good.
I am not sure I can recommend it. I would definitely recommend other Smithfield books though.
I think Shannon knows the characters well and did a good job with them. Sometimes I could not distinguish a voice or two but RARELY, very rarely because he does try hard with them.
I think this book is a must-have if you like the other Smithfield books. otherwise, it can be overlooked. The main character is a bit shallow, worse yet, I ended up feeling sorry for the bad guy... but the story does have heart in there, somewhere, under all the superficial stuff. it's got humor, spontaneous sex and more humor. However, if you are a first time reader of the Smithfield series, I recommend you check out "Mark and Tony" or "Seth and David", these were more compelling. I do love that characters from other books show up in this book too. That's a lot of fun. It was well written and a good addition to my collection but not a book I'd try to listen to twice. Might have to listen to Mark and Tony again though...
As far as skill, it was very skillfully written but I don't have the urge to listen to it a second time.
When Nick sees the ambulance.
Perry. He's got a lot of heart.
The pace of the book was great, the story well done. The characters were real, very real in fact. The whole 'boy' with 'man' thing was starting to get creepy by the point when one is referred to as smelling of 'boy sweat', but otherwise, it was a good fun listen. The voice actor made the characters come to life and his wide range really did justice to the story. It has a lot of twists and turns that get wrapped up rather nicely. I'm glad I gave this one a shot after Darkling Thrush because it's a better book. I recommend it.
p.s. I believe this is a non American author, we don't call 'our room' 'our rooms', we don't say 'what was he doing in my rooms', or 'my apartments', 'she went to her rooms', yeah, that was a bit distracting but once you get past that, it was good.
Paul is talented but I wondered if it was possible to do the old people's voices... older.
OK, I'm no prude, and I have listened to a lot of books, some good, some bad. this is one of the few I can't finish. Listen, I don't care if it's gay or straight, man or women, old people flirting or getting down is just gross. I got past that. when an author makes casual references to boys performing fellatio for money, I start to lose interest JUST a bit faster... I dread what's to come after those gems. So did I finish it? No. Will I try to? probably not. I already gave 2 hours of my life to it. So my review is not comprehensive because I couldn't make it all the way through.
The alien's balls. Seriously, I was like wtf at first but it got funnier...
Never heard him before. He did pretty well.
To be fair, the reviewer before mine is not lying, there are some corny parts in the beginning of this book, but I implore you to push through them, it's well worth it. This isn't a book that will one day become a movie but that doesn't mean it's not a good book. The writing is well done, the narration is well done, and the story is cute. There's just enough fluff, just enough action, just enough sex, and just enough heart. By the middle of the book and the end, the fluff fades and it takes on a more serious tone. I won't lie, I read romance for romance, and I am well aware that romance sometimes comes with cheese but this one was lightly dashed with it, and not covered in it Velveeta style like others I've heard or read. I am VERY pleased with this purchase and this story. It was worth way more than I paid. The characters were sweet and well put together. Thumbs up to the author and narrator. I shall look out for more by them in the future. Bravo!
Of course. I'm starting to actually look for books with him, just because I am used to his style. It's not always great, but I've heard BAD narrators before, and Jim isn't bad. A bit stiff here and there, but not bad.
I'll admit, this story bored me in the beginning. I kinda kept it on as a background sorta thing. Then the second chapter happened and I was really taken by surprise. VERY nice idea. I didn't even think of that. Once you know who the characters are and what they are, then it becomes really interesting. So overall, I found the story to be very sweet. :-)
This was a refreshing break from long books. It was short, well rounded, and hot. A little surprising too.
Jim is Jim, I'm used to his style and his voice but this book did make it easier for him to change voices. He did the accents well, and I was pleased with what he did with the other character voices.
I was actually kinda surprised by it. But in a good way. :-D
It's worth a listen. Give it a shot.
yes, because the story was compelling
This is not my first book with Jeff Gelder so I knew what to expect. A listener should be forewarned, Jeff has a GREAT voice for Logan. It's warm and sexy and done perfectly, however, he cannot do Jin, which is a problem since it's a first person book and Jin is the one telling the story. He just can't do Jin to save his life. I'm not sure why that is. Other characters come out perfect, but for whatever reason, Jin comes out flat. For Logan's voice alone though, I'd recommend this story. if you can accept it for what it is, then I think it's a very enjoyable listen. Highly recommended because it's a cute story. I think Jeff did a better job than Sean.
Felix is simply adorable.
This book would have been great with a different narrator. Let me explain why. It cannot be so hard to find a male voice for a MALE character. I have heard female narrators who can do male voices well, but this narrator cannot. that being said, luckily, this story was sweet so it was still worth it. I recommend it, despite the narrator being female.
Felix. He's done so well and so sweetly. I'd be too afraid that C would break out her cellphone.
If this book had a different narrator, it would have been perfect. I am not sure how many non PC things were approached in this story but it was great fun. It's nothing mind-blowing but it's very quirky and good for a listen just to laugh a few times. I will recommend this to my friends, especially the written version. I hope to see more in this genre from this author. very cute story indeed.
The story is disappointing for me. The characters were good, the main character especially. And I loved the love interest but I just didn't care about the mystery. I did not know why I should care. I would have liked more with the relationship brewing between the main characters or if they were in it together maybe. The use of other worldly terms made language into a foreign language. there are so many uncommon names running around that I just started blocking them out. There was just a lot of talk of reading one book after another but to be fair, this is a book about a book hunter.
Overall, the writing was great, and the audiblebook was well read. I think my reaction to this book has only to do with the fact that it just wasn't for me. I think if you like a good mystery peppered in with magic then you should give this book a try. However, I like a story which moves at a brisker pace.
The man had great range. His voices were distinct. He was just very polished. Great job.
Cut? I'd cut the main characters of the mystery, which is a bad sign.
I am not sure where this author is from. but I'd just like to say that the ONLY time Americans say "what the devil?" is when we're making fun of the British. A few "what the hell"s might have been better.
The writing was good for this book. Dialogue was real and well done. The narrator was TOP NOTCH. the love scenes were sweet. With those factors in mind, it's best to try it for yourself.
As for me, I did not enjoy the book. I forced myself to listen to it till the end, but that's alright because the narrator was good. I felt that it was slow and I couldn't get into the mystery and to be honest, with all the fancy words and fancy names out there, I was a bit surprised to hear the words 'the end of the world spell'. Thought for sure that spell could have a cooler name. I will try this author out again though.
