I was looking forward to this book because I have enjoyed Larry Niven's other books, but this one just seemed to wander around a bit. I knew it was a bit dated when I got it and I was able to get around the the 20th century technology. In the end it just kind of fizzled. I didn't realize I had reached the end of the book until I heard "epilogue". I was thinking these was another part to go.
As a fan of the Camel Club series I enjoyed the book and Ron McLarty's reading. Cassidy was OK but her acent was way too southern for West Virginia. Sounded more like Mississippi. I don't care much for the sound effects or background music.
The story could easily have been another Cameal Club book so if you like that series you will like this book.
I thought I was getting a novel about The Battle of Franklin. What I got was a compelling novel that describes the lives of the individuals and families just before, during and years after the battle. This was a very enjoyable book. I especially liked the multiple readers reading the different characters.
Now that I've finished the book I want to go visit Franklin, TN and places where this story came from.
