After all the stellar reviews, I really expected to love this book, but I stopped listening after the first 45 minutes. It just didn't engage me at all, nor was it what I expected. I just couldn't get excited by the characters, although the readers were quite good. The whole concept of a former SS officer wanting to repent at an advanced age didn't work for me.
I find the story to be hard to follow, but most of all I find it boring. I tried this author because of the great reviews, but it is not for me. I like Patterson, Meltzer, Mcall Smith, Grisham, and all different kinds of mystery & suspense authors, but this one just doesn't do it for me. The performance is fine, but the story just doesn't grab me in the first 8 chapters. That is all the time I can give it.
I find these stories to be very compelling. I am a huge James Patterson fan since I always find that I am engaged the whole time I read his books. I love the Bennett series.
