"boring and strange"
The story was weird and didn’t keep me engaged, the characters seemed immature for their age and not much was believable. The major conflict doesn’t really get resolved and takes only a few min of the story in the end. Would not recommend this book.
"Disapointed & Confused"
The story was truly hard to follow, which is a shame because it seemed to get such great reviews from other listeners. I loved his book "snowman", it is how I got turned on to him as an author but this book let me down. I couldn't keep who was who and what was what; it seems to be extra hard for me personally to keep lots of new 'foreign' names straight but this one was extra difficult ... too many characters and the ending seemed sloppy.
"Fun & Grusome"
Fun detective thriller. The Snowman is a great idea of a case, really different. It is written so that you can work-out the mystery yourself if you are a careful listener, which i always love. The only negative is the setting & character names. Because it is an unfamiliar place to me and the names are very traditional I had a hard time keeping them straight for a while. Similar to "girl with a dragon tattoo"
"Couldnt sit through it"
I was really interested in the topic and was fascinated by the complete history of cancer turned into a novel. HOWEVER the language & vocabulary are written in the perspective of a Doctor (with a giant stick up his ***). The sentences run on and the medical vocabulary is never explained. It is more like doctors talking to doctors, not seemingly created for a wide audience. Additionally the book jumps around a lot. The subject matter is a very emotional thing for people but the narrator has a dry egotistical voice.
"Meh, not great"
I'm a huge fan of the TV Series, and the book has the same characters with a bit of a different set up in terms of their relationships. The reader portrays Dexter accurately, however he is not a very interesting character in terms of personality anyway. It didn't make for a great book.
"Far less than wonderful"
I didn't hate the book but I certainly didn't love it. The narrator, Jenna Lamia, was the reason I purchased it.
The story was a huge disappointment, set during the great depression it didn't seem so great, no one in the book really suffered from lack of food and always seemed to have what they needed. There was too much religion references also. The 1st part of the book moved at an appropriate pace, the middle was drawn out and I lost most of my interest in the characters, then the author wraps up the whole story in the last 30 min. I really didn't like it :(
"Fun and rather simple"
The main character is a bit to clever compared to most young people i know. the knowledge and interest in chemistry at that age seems nearly impossible. The story itself was interesting and a fun listen, very appropriate for young adults. The narration is very nice, with a soft accent.
"Sophie's choice"
the book was good until you realize that 3/4 of a way into the book it is sophie's choice in a different package. relation ship characteristics are the same. the narration is good, i like it when books choose different actors for different characters. Good but NOT great
"Wow... seriously....wow"
the best book i've listened to in quite some time. the women's voices have a beautiful resonance that brings the story to life.
