This is my 1st review after 154 books on audible, mostly romances. It is an "somewhat dark" (previous review listed) romance but in a good way - different then most historic romances. I listened to it straight threw on a long day and found myself waiting for the 2nd book in the series, I hope I don't have to wait too long. The narrartor was fantastic and I hope the next book is read by her. There was a lot of sex but whats a romance without it. The plot was excellent and you were introduced to several other persons who I am sure will be in the coming series. Also several cliff hangers. I think this a cross between Amanda Quick, Charlotte Featherstone and Sarah McCarty but definatly a writer in her own right! Bravo
I liked the book and the series. It was a fun no brainer and you do want to get the rest of the Dara Joy books.
The book was good and the narrator was fab. as always, but, I wish there was more of a story line as the other Garwood novels. Her history was well done and her decriptions were great but I wish there was a little more twist and turns as in previous reads. It was kind of predictable. I wouldnt of missed the book because Garwood and Flosnik are 2 of my favorites but with as long as it was there could of been more to the book. Still worth getting and a decent price.
I loved all 3 books in this series. All 3 men were a handful but really romantic with the right lady to bring out their true character. The narrator is a little weird constantly making sucking noises but you get used to it (beleive it or not) and it shouldn't sway you from the listen. The voices are great and identifiable threw out the novels. The cover and excert about the book are not enticing as they should be. I am hoping that there are more coming from the Free Fellows League (in audio) since more men joined the league through-out the series and the 3rd was a kind of cliff hanger. The men in the league (formed when they were children) are all very different but have stuck together as friends over the years and are always there for one another. Ms. Lee did a great job with the keeping of the times and you will enjoy a "More Grandious but somehow simpilar" time in our history. The steamy scences are very nice.
I liked the entire series and couldn't wait to see what would happen to Prudence as I feel we grew up with her as the youngest and she was always up to mischeif with her zoo. I thought Christopher a little bit of a turd even know he suffered from PPD. The stories were all well written and I was glad that the same narrator carried us threw the series and that we learned a little of how all their lives were holding up in each novel. The sex was great and not overdone as in some novels - but certainly not prudish. You should start with the first Hathaway novel and then after reading those resume with the "wallflower" series (2 of which are not on audible yet (are you listening audible) we need to know what is happening in volumes 3 and 4 expeccially #3 since we know what is about to happen from the end of #2. These novels are also rather humorus and you will laugh at some of the circumstances they get into. The men are all novel and are Loving not overbearing but very protective over their women. The women are strong and have strong family ties and are entirely lovable. The plots are intriguing and fast-paced. You'll fall in love with them all and wish they were your family.
I agree with the prior review hole heartly. 2 Completly different people brought together by a desire to prove each other wrong but finding that they admire each others qualitites and realizing that by proving that one or the other is wrong will break a union they have formed. From completly different worlds, he can be rather blunt and she goes out of her way to be meek and loving and holds not an unkind word, but still can be visous if needed. Both realize that they want to move out of the rut they indivually have been in for years yet by doing so it would seperate the two from one another forever
I have read (or listened to) all the historic Garwood novels and no two are alike. Her descriptions are vivid and you are transported. Her men always start as beast but with the right women end up not as pussy cats but tamed lions. The women are smart, witty and strong. The plot keeps moving and the narrator is wonderful. Many good qualities and a welcome ending.
I Really liked this book. It was my first Jo Beverly Novel, and I listened to it because our friend Anne Flosnik narratored it - anything she reads has proven to be good. There were great characters and the writer used great adjectives to give you ideas of who the people were and I felt I was sitting right in the middle of many of the places that story took place. I only wish when authors are doing series that all of them are on audio. I'd like to read the Dragons Bride but the tought of Simon Pebble reading it is a turn off. I have listened to some that he does and can tolerate it but Its hard after listening to a female narrator as good as Anne.
I liked this book but I am not a favorite of Simon Pebble. In my opionion books of Julia's should be read by Rosylan Landor - if she is more expensive, she is more then worth it. "What happens in london"... was better and I think it was mostly because of the narrator. It was good but not worth the highdollar purchase unless you are using one of your credits - also it was kind of hard for me to get used to Garth calling her Hyacinth when in the heat of passion - maybe he should have given her a nickname.Hyacinth is a mouthful to speak in the middle of passion - I am thinking of getting "on the way to the wedding" but dont know if I can take more Simon. Rosylan Landor is a much better choice.
