Well done...interesting research into why Kenyan runners are so dominant in the U.S. and olympics. Perhaps could have gone a bit deeper into the Kenyan youth and how they are groomed. A pretty cool tale of a whitey making his way around Kenya - an experience all to itself, and not in a bad way. I was there in 1977 and am white, we simply stick out. But, the Kenyan people are inquisitive and hold none of the prejudices we Americans seem to have. Note: This book is not about white and black, the author is clearly colorblind. He keeps almost entirely to his quest to race and train with the Kenyans and the stories of the running races is fascinating.

  • The Extra 2%: How Wall Street Strategies Took a Major League Baseball Team from Worst to First

In The Extra 2%, financial journalist and sportswriter Jonah Keri chronicles the remarkable story of one team's Cinderella journey from divisional doormat to World Series contender. By quantifying the game's intangibles, they were able to deliver to Tampa Bay an American League pennant. This is an informative and entertaining case study for any organization that wants to go from worst to first.

If you could sum up The Extra 2% in three words, what would they be?

    Thorough. Humorous. Eye-opening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Extra 2%?

The players that Tampa almost had.

What aspect of Lloyd James’s performance would you have changed?

Inexcusable that he mis-pronounced so many names!!!! That is reason for the 3 stars. Otherwise, he was very good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Close...it was hard to 'put down' .

    Any additional comments?

Life long Red Sox fan who always wanted to know how the heck Tampa could come from such depths to reach such heights. Even as a Sox fan, I kinda have to root for the Rays!

James Hetfield, with whom many years ago Mustaine founded a band known as Metallica, once observed, with some incredulity, that Mustaine must have been born with a horseshoe up his ass. That's how lucky he's been, how fortunate he is to be pulling breath after so many close calls. And Hetfield is right. Mustaine has been lucky. He has been blessed. But here's the thing about having a horseshoe lodged in your rectum: It also hurts like hell. And you never forget it's there.

Where does Mustaine rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Wow...this is so subjective. I lean heavily towards autobiographies and non-fiction in general. Best judge is how anxious I was to keep listening...very. You have to be fan of Megadeth and know some history to truly appreciate the life of Mustaine

    Any additional comments?

Dave Mustaine is very intelligent person and one of the most tortured public people you'll ever read about...yet, he somehow is still roaming the earth and keeping perspective. So many musicians broke down completely, well before accomplishing everything that Mustaine has - bravo Dave. Unlike many other addicts, it seems he did himself the most damage along the way - yet kept his vision alive.

  • The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains

Weaving insights from philosophy, neuroscience, and history into a rich narrative, The Shallows explains how the Internet is rerouting our neural pathways, replacing the subtle mind of the book reader with the distracted mind of the screen watcher. A gripping story of human transformation played out against a backdrop of technological upheaval, The Shallows will forever alter the way we think about media and our minds.

An exhaustive study...with plenty of backup and research. I'll admit that I'd already felt the way we live today - essentially in sound bites and rapid fire "subject heading" attention spans, was changing the say we think. I'm a 52 year old male who has been a multi-tasker most of my life, and the internet has aided in that - to no end. While I feel much more efficient and productive (and knowledgeable) , I now realize most of it is pretty superficial and the list of 'mostly or half finished' projects grows daily... It's time to get a grip. There is a lot to keep the listener engaged but it's a long book...and at times found myself drifting - perhaps another victim of that brain modification! (Joke, sorta)

  • Aftershock: The Next Economy and America’s Future

The author of 12 acclaimed books, Robert B. Reich is a Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and has served in three national administrations. While many blamed Wall Street for the financial meltdown, Aftershock points a finger at a national economy in which wealth is increasingly concentrated at the top - and where a grasping middle class simply does not have the resources to remain viable.

Too many books these days waiver from facts and reality due to personal and/or political reasons - this one does not. Mr Reich stays with the facts and properly places history in perspective. The times of today are not exactly like economic history, and those that hang on to those 'old' economic beliefs will be left behind. This informative book was a quick 'read' and I'll likely give it another listen.

Loud rock, fast cars, and Cabo. This is the life of Sammy Hagar. For almost 40 years, Sammy Hagar has been a fixture in rock music. From breaking into the industry with the band Montrose to his multiplatinum solo career to his ride as the front man of Van Halen, Sammy's powerful and unforgettable voice has set the tone for some of the greatest rock anthems ever written - songs like "I Can't Drive 55", "Right Now", and "Why Can't This Be Love".

    Story

I finished this book quickly, hard to put down. I've been a big fan of Sammy and of Van Halen for a long, long time and really looked forward to the book. The opening chapters were an eye opener filled with information I wan't aware of before and set a nice tone for the book.
As the book goes on, it gets a little more 'dicy' and I became conflicted as to what my opinion now was of Sammy. In many ways, this story and this man is are an 'American Success Story' and illustrates what drive and passion can do for someone in America. His constant justifications for his bad behavior were 'off putting' to me. Fine, you're a rock star and lived the life....I don't need to hear your attempts to justify the disrespect you showed to your wife! And probably not enough credit was given to business partners who really helped Sammy succeed.
In the end - we rate the book and any book that can't be put down...is worth reading.
