A deadly serious game of hide-and-seek is on. The CIA's brilliant young analyst, Jack Ryan, thinks he knows the reason for the sudden Red Fleet operation: the Soviets' most valuable ship, the Red October, is attempting to defect to the United States.

I am a great Clancy fan and Hunt is Clancy in the prime. Unfortunately, the reader mispronounces the occasional word and his accents are terrible. All those characters and only three of four accents and some of those incorrect for the character described by the author. The pacing is just a little off. The emphasise was wrong some times. The flaws were just enough to be grating and drop a 5 star listen down to 3.5. I will look for Mr. Charles as narrator and pass the book by, no matter how good a bargain.

Eve Dallas is the tough lieutenant hot on his trail, but this is unlike any case she’s ever been assigned - or any killer she’s ever pursued. A police sketch based on eye-witness testimony reveals the killer has green skin, swollen red eyes, goblin ears, and a dislocated jaw-structure that defies the human form. Is it a mask? Is it make-up? Or is the explanation more sinister? Dallas faces off against multiple suspects - all of them students of medicine capable of precisely slicing the ears, noses, and eyes of the three victims.

At a Mexican roadblock, a U.S. Embassy SUV is stopped at gunpoint, three of its passengers murdered, and a fourth kidnapped. Everything points to the drug cartels, especially when the kidnappers say they will return the hostage if a cartel kingpin is released from U.S. federal prison. But when word gets to Charley Castillo and his group of “retired” spies and special operators, they have their doubts.

What did you like best about Covert Warriors? What did you like least?

I liked hearing about the characters in a new plot.

What was most disappointing about W.E.B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth ???s story?

but there were dropped threads and shoddy attention to detail. The duo need to hone their partnership style.

Which character ??? as performed by Dick Hill ??? was your favorite?

    Charlie

Was Covert Warriors worth the listening time?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

The style should improve. The first Dick Francis/Felix Francis novel was not as good as usual too.

There's a sudden spike in murders in Philadelphia, but no one seems to mind much because the victims all seem to be lowlifes. The more Homicide Sergeant Matthew Payne investigates, however, the more he gets a bad feeling-one that only gets worse when vigilante groups spring up claiming credit for some of the hits, even though Payne knows it can't be true. As the targets get bigger and events start moving out of control, Payne realizes that if he and his colleagues can't figure out who's behind this very soon, the violence could overtake them all.

I like the characters and the thread of the plot about Matt's personal life was ok - the main story line was disjointed and unbelievable. Poorly written. It feels as if Mr butterworth does not yet live up to his father's skill and craftmanship.

This was even better than the other Charlaine Harris series. Well read. Next book in the series is due in October, I am very ready. I buy almost nothing in hardcover, but this series is worth it. Just a super listen, too. The characters are believable even if you wonder about their special abilities. The voice is smooth and certain, Good read. Solid plot.

"Sadly, death at the races is not uncommon. However, three in a single afternoon was sufficiently unusual to raise more than one eyebrow." It's the third death on Cheltenham Gold Cup Day that really troubles super-sleuth Sid Halley. Last seen in 1995's Come to Grief, former champion jockey Halley knows the perils of racing all too well but, in his day, jockeys didn't usually reach the finishing line with three .38 rounds in the chest.

Another of the Sid Halley novels by Francis. This time Sid falling love to a woman with brains and courage to match him, but fortunately Francis doesn't let a romance interfer with a great mystery. His villians are just as evil as ever and the plot is well constructed. This time he shows us the world of genetic science in addition to the seamy side of British horse racing.
