New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

    "Awful"
    Overall

I finished this book today only because I wanted to be honest about finishing it before I reported how awful this book is. This book had the plot to become a good story but the characters and the dialogue managed to drag it into a morass of predictability. Maybe the failure of this book should go to the editor -since the editor should have recognized and fixed all the flaws. I don't believe I will ever again listen to Sandra Brown's books if this is an example of her work. The characters were not developed or engaging and I couldn't become interested or care about any of them. The reader's southern accents were tiring to listen to, not the soft southern accents I grew up with at all. The book within a book concept was okay - in fact the inside book was better. But, don't waste your time reading or listening to this just for that inside book. Go on to something better.

Today is Leonard Peacock's birthday. It is also the day he hides a gun in his backpack. Because today is the day he will kill his former best friend, and then himself, with his grandfather's P-38 pistol. But first he must say good-bye to the four people who matter most to him: his Humphrey Bogart - obsessed next-door neighbor, Walt; his classmate Baback, a violin virtuoso; Lauren, the Christian homeschooler he has a crush on; and Herr Silverman, who teaches the high school's class on the Holocaust.

What made the experience of listening to Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock the most enjoyable?

The experiences in this story seem so real that it seemed like they were taken from real life. I think the narrator did an amazing job.

What about Noah Galvin’s performance did you like?

I don't know if Noah Galvin is a teenager or not. He tells this story like he lived it.

With only hours remaining before the conflict reaches a deadly point of no return, the White House must find a way to shut it down immediately or risk the likelihood of a new global war. A radical cleric has become the democratically elected president of Pakistan and uses a brutal incident in the Kashmir region as an opportunity to ignite war with India. The highly lethal conventional war spins out of control when Pakistan initiates a nuclear attack.

Don't listen to this one until you've heard his first novel, "Power Down". The main character continues his journey in this book. I heard that these are Ben Coes first novels, if so, I think he's doing something right. Enjoyed both stores very much.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"

All I can say is, WOW, no wonder they were called the greatest generation. What a story of endurance.

To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. He and the Anti-Terrorist Task Force must stop "The Lion," an alleged Libyan terrorist with the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey. And listen to Mayday, by DeMille and Thomas Block, the most terrifyingly realistic air disaster thriller of all time.

Very exciting! And boy what a story plus there's plenty of humor. I've decided DeMille is destined to be one of the best writers of our time.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

A funny mystery, a great summer read. Highly recommend it to everyone who likes a good mystery story with some humor to lighten the darkness.

What do you do when you are a nanny to an obscenely rich Park Avenue matron named X? Mrs. X refuses to do anything for herself, including cook, clean, or take care of her 4-year-old son. You are expected to do everything, including maintaining the mental health of said 4-year-old, even while Mrs. X decides that it is time for a divorce. You'll have to bear up under the strain with wit and panache, even as the boundaries between your working life and your so-called private life blur, merge, and disappear.

I throughly disliked this book. While it tried to come off as funny, in reality it showed us what pathetic parenting is out there.

Richard Mayhew is an unassuming young businessman living in London, with a dull job and a pretty but shrewish fiancée. Then one night he stumbles upon a girl lying on the sidewalk, bleeding. He stops to help her, and his life is changed forever. Soon he finds himself living in a London most people would never have dreamed of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels. It is a world that exists entirely in a subterranean labyrinth of sewer canals and abandoned subway stations.

Not my usual type of book, but I enjoyed the change. Not sure I would read more of these novels.
