OHmagosh! I just loved this installment in the Dulcie O'Neal series. It was smart and action packed with tons of intrigue and yet still keeping to each characters true voice. This one really takes the drama up a notch, so hold on for a Hell of a ride. :)
I really love these characters and have even gotten my Dad hooked on this great series, but I have one comment on the plausibility or necessity of part of this story. During a life or death battle with perilous god-like creatures, is it really the best time to bring up a dumbass bet you made with your hound about the use of action hero lingo??!! C'MON! Mr. Hearne, you are, without question, an extremely knowledgeable and talented writer. So why would you make a bonehead choice like that? I realize that it is expected that we must suspend disbelief for most fiction, perhaps especially paranormal or urban fantasy fiction. But you DO still want us to believe in the characters and imagine that all these incredible and insane situations that are on the page are really happening, right? So if your hero is supposed to be so careful, paranoid, and always aware of his surroundings, why would he start having an argument about something so inane when lives are on the line in the middle of a fight? Just sayin.
Otherwise, I do love Oberon, Atticus and maybe even Coyote, and I will keep reading as long as the books are hitting the e-shelves. Thank you so much for hours of entertainment. ;)
When I saw this movie, I had only completed the first section of the book. Even before the movie I was given the spoiler of the twist ending, so that didn't put me off the book like others have panned the book for. Having said that, it is the relationship of each MC that is drawing me in and I'm certainly less inclined to read further if that dynamic changes.
On a separate note, I realize Clary is just a regular girl thrown into the mix of some seriously crazy shtuff. But I'm not enjoying reading about a normal person reacting to these supernatural occurrences. It's like imagining what I would do and it's basically whine, cry and nearly wet myself. NOT entertaining. It may not be realistic, but can I please have some fiction in my fiction and see Clary do something other than be a scared bystander? Blegh. No bueno!
Only, and I can't stress that enough, ONLY because a good friend told me to keep reading and that I won't be disappointed is why I'll continue on with this series. *crossing fingers.
So eager for the next book... but the chick in me is pissed about the lack of "romance follow through". lol, ah well. Still, Butcher did NOT leave us out in the cold (yuk yuk) with this story. Amazing action, fantastic drama and I am crazy excited to see what happens next!
For a "strictly speaking" paranormal romance, there was a ridiculous lack of paranormal. I was really hoping to add this to our potential reading list for my paranormal romance bookclub. But I'd be ridden out on a rail after they read this. It was basically just a breathy and broody contemporary romance with some super hot Scots. Not bad, but not great either. I'm usually a fan of Melissa Schroeder's work. I definitely consider myself a Harmless Fan, if not an Addict. This just didn't seem up to the same standards as some of her other work. I doubt I'll read more if they come out.
I have read this series before and am going back to listen again. It just doesn't get old for me. Joyce Bean brings Mac to life like no other and I just wish she could have finished out the series. This story introduces us to the world of the Fae in Dublin just as Mac is thrust into this crazy and terrifying world her older sister was murdered in. The characters are intriguing and the story-line never grows stale. I will probably read this one again in another year or so. Love it!
Character, spunk, reality and HEART!
I get the idea of leaving the audience begging for more. But I felt like there should've been just MORE of this story before the end. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely eager to see what will happen next for the characters of this series. I guess I just wish there was a little more HEA in the HEA of this book.
Come someone Pah-LEASE tell me why audible.com doesn't have the rest of this series? The audio publisher has them all. They're all out there in the ether and available to buy today. Please, please, please, PLEASE can someone make them available here??? Pretty please???!!
I doubt I can say it better than Sandra from MO wrote, but... yeh, ditto ditto and more ditto.
It took me about 3 books to really start to like Jim Frangione. He's just so damned precise w/ his articulation. LOL, but now I think I'd be sick to hear anyone else read this series. He's wonderful. And JIC anyone out there forgot, JR WARD rocks it HARD w/ the BDB series and remember to check out Covet, the new Fallen Angel series. Man, please please please keep these coming. We love you JR WARD!!
I cant believe they kept using this narrator for 4 or 5 books! WTH? She cant even pronounce the simplest of words, let alone have any real character emotion. YICK! I swear, I dont know if I'll even finish the next book via audio and I KNOW I wont buy any other books narrated by Juanita Parker. Blegh!
