After 12 years of secret training, Atticus O’Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he’s still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave. Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge - but he’ll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Start with a different Iron Druid book, but worth a read if you're moving through the series. Bits and pieces are typical of Hearne's brilliance but overall this one didn't hold together or flow as well as the others. Luke Daniels is a great narrator, but his voice sounded bored at times during this book.

Would you be willing to try another book from Kevin Hearne? Why or why not?

    Absolutely

    Any additional comments?

Great series, great author, great narrator . . .strangely boring audiobook

When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves.

What was most disappointing about Gail Carriger’s story?

Completely enjoyed the Finishing School series and the Parasol Protectorate series for light entertainment. Prudence was a favorite character so I thought this would be great. Inventive in spots but the whole thing just didn't work -- had to struggle to get through. Picked up in interest about 3/4 of the way through the book.

What about Moira Quirk’s performance did you like?

great individual voices, lovely to listen to

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    inventive bits

John Ceepak and Danny Boyle return with the hunt for a long-dormant serial killer who might be ready to strike again. An innocent discovery on the beach in Sea Haven pits Ceepak against a killer with a code just as rigid as his own. When the killer targets his next victim, the consequences becomes dire for Ceepak and Boyle. This is a game they must win.

What did you like best about Whack-a-Mole? What did you like least?

Another great well written story, didn't like the depressing murders

Would you ever listen to anything by Chris Grabenstein again?

Absolutely, loved the first couple of books in the series, and I'll hope Grabenstein isn't escalating.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Tilt-A-Whirl and Mad Mouse. Performance always great

Was Whack-a-Mole worth the listening time?

    yes

Agent Franks of the U.S. Monster Control Bureau is a man of many parts - parts from other people, that is. Franks is nearly seven feet tall and all muscle. He's nearly indestructible. Plus he’s animated by a powerful alchemical substance and inhabited by a super-intelligent spirit more ancient than humanity itself. Good thing he’s on our side. More or less.

    Bruce Selzler says: "Another Winner"

Would you try another book from Larry Correia and/or Oliver Wyman?

Own and reread Monster Hunter and Grimnoir series. Plan to get the other series

What could Larry Correia have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This could have been Correia's best book yet -- the bones of this story are so great. Frank's character in previous books gave glimpses and Correia handled fleshing out a fascinating ensemble character beautifully in Monster Hunter Alpha. Unfortunately, in Nemesis, Franks kept slipping out of himself and into Pitt/Sullivan voice. Seem like this was was rushed to delivery and could have benefitted from another round of editing and some fine tuning. Still with Correia production level of fun stuff, once in awhile a rush job is inevitable.

Have you listened to any of Oliver Wyman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Totally happy with Wyman's performance

    Any additional comments?

Well worth a listen. Great fun.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

Would you listen to Tilt-a-Whirl again? Why?

I wasn't familiar with the author and the combination of the writing style and the narration initially led me to suspect this might be one of those goofy fluff pieces that irritate rather than entertain me. I'm so glad I stayed with it -- the work was far more layered and interesting than I guessed. I'll listen to it a couple more times to pick out what I missed.

    Any additional comments?

Great author. I'll be listening to the rest of his offerings.

At first, only a few things are known about the celestial object that astronomers dub Rama. It is huge, weighing more than ten trillion tons. And it is hurtling through the solar system at inconceivable speed. Then a space probe confirms the unthinkable: Rama is no natural object. It is, incredibly, an interstellar spacecraft. Space explorers and planet-bound scientists alike prepare for mankind's first encounter with alien intelligence.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

One of the best books of all times coupled with poor narration.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Peter Ganim and Robert J. Sawyer (Introduction) ?

The narration style made it painful to listen to this book. Not a terrible narrator, but tone delivery and pacing that made this incredibly interesting book hard work to listen to. Boring boring boring in spite of the completely interesting book.
