While this book is just merely pleasant, I would have liked to listen to the others in the series. However, I just about couldn't finish this one because of the narrator. Every third word is emphasized in a surprised voice as if it's really important rather than just the 3rd, 6th, 9th word in the sentence. "She WALKED down the PATH!" Every character had the same inflection and every 3rd character had lisping S's. Once I caught on to this cadence, it was torture to finish the book. This is not Sookie, Harper, or Lily but still nice writing.

This is the start of a delightful series that has become one of my favorites. The main character has such dry wit that you immediately love her. The take on vampires and werewolves is unique (which is hard to do these days). The narrator was wonderful! I immediately got all 5 books and listened to them straight. Can't wait for more from this author.

I had the hardest time listening to the hard "g's" by the narrator. e.g. wrongah (wrong), longah (long), he was strongah. (is her last name Fortanga?) I didn't mind the quasi-southern accent. I even liked the interesting timbre of her voice. I just hated the hard g's. I live in the South and no one pronounces g's like that.
I wish Gin would have used her power more, practiced it, etc, instead of just ignoring it.
I listened to the end because the story was pretty good, despite some of the oddities.

Rachel appeared to lose focus and ability, letting mere humans kick her butt, and not paying attention to the advice of her friends. A lot of the writing was rehashing and reiterating (space fill?). Still, I love Rachel, Ivy, Jenks, David, etc, and will buy all the series as they come out and anxiously await the next. Maybe Rachel will grow up soon.

I'm a big fan of Ms. Gavin but she seemed to not pay attention to where the phrase should end and starting slurring half to 2/3 the way through. It appeared that she'd read a sentence and then stop at the end of the line, even though the sentence didn't end for another 3-4 words. Still, I can't stand anyone other than Ms. Gavin to voice Jenks or Ivy.

There has to be more because not much happened here.

This is the best of the series so far. The narrator stays true to the characters and by inflection, differentiates between them. Yes, she has a contrived Southern accent but it's good. This is also all about Eric, and if you're a true fan, you are also all about Eric. Character developement is pretty good in this one and the rest of the series pivots on this book. Don't miss it.

I have loved Dan Brown books and Paul Michael as a narrator but I was very disappointed in this long winded, strain on reality. His constant repetition of key phrases, as if we've forgotten them since 2 paragraphs ago, wears on the listener. The last hour and a half had no reason for being as I was done with the book by chapter 106 (it goes on forever). I wish I had read reviews before I pre-ordered and bought this book.

Pleasant trifle but the narrator's habit of ending nearly 3/4 of her sentences in a question became extremely annoying. I could find no reason for this other than disinterest in her story. It's OK to pass away time in traffic with but I'll avoid any book by this narrator.

Typical Feehan so that much was familiar. Fluffy but pleasant. I won't buy another in the series, though, because the narrator's accent ("bwawdy" for "body") and tendency to lick lips and breath while still talking made it nearly too irritating to finish. Distinctly ennuciated, too, with sharp t's and long pauses. Yuck.

I love Kim Harrison and her Hollows series but I found myself actively yelling at the new narrator when she said names that were so different from the first 5 books. I don't know which narrator pronounced them correctly but I'm thinking it's not this one. It really took away from my enjoyment of the book. And, if it seems like Rachel is overly reflective, the narrator actually repeats lines immediately after reading them. I didn't mind her voice, though. I learned from other series that you need to keep the same narrator to feel in touch with the story and the characters.

Delightful. Good story, supposedly for children but much better appreciated by adults, made more enjoyable by an absolutely brilliant narrator. I've listened for two years and dozens of books and I want more narrated by Nathaniel Parker. His accents and dialects, pauses and ironic inflections increased my appreciation of the Artemis Fowl series. Both the author and the narrator need to do more! I have to do the rest of the series on Audible and not in print because of the pleasure I get from the spoken version.
