Nonny Frett understands the meanings of "rock" and "hard place" better than any woman ever born. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy". She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. She has a job that holds her in the city, and she's addicted to a little girl who's stuck deep in the country.

Rare combination of an interesting, unique story. Terrific narration by the author-a very rare feat in the world of audiobooks! The descriptive writing was not overdone, and the analagies were spot-on.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    "The best of Audible"
    Overall

As a 4 year veteran of Audible, I can say with confidence that this is the most outstanding book I have encountered. The story was unique and imaginative, suspensful and endearing.

It is the narration, however, that brings this book to life. Clever distinctions between characters of the young Jacob, superb pacing and emotion from the older Jacob.

I would not be surprised to see this under the Awards category. Not to be missed.
