  • The Art of Racing in the Rain

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Garth Stein
    • Narrated By Christopher Evan Welch
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

    FanB14 says: "Artful Surprise"
    "A fun read."

I've always thought of myself as a bit dog-like and now I know why. The book was well written, witty, and the story was told from a unique perspective that I enjoyed thoroughly.

If you enjoy good story telling, you can't go wrong with this book.

  • All By My Selves: Walter, Peanut, Achmed, and Me

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Jeff Dunham
    • Narrated By Jeff Dunham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

All By My Selves is comedy superstar Jeff Dunham's story as told by Jeff himself! This unique comedic audio release takes fans behind the curtain to explain how he turned a tired, vaudevillian art form into something truly modern and hip. Not only will Jeff reveal how he developed his act and lovable characters over the years, he'll also share the details of his life as working comedian and family man on the road.

    Michelle says: "Completely Enjoyable"
    "Loved it!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Ordered this book on a whim before starting out on a 5 hour drive. Kept me in stitches and the made the drive seem like a drive to the market rather than a cross-state trek.

What did you like best about this story?

I keeeel you!! If you've seen/heard Achmed, you'll know what I mean. If not, buy the book and enjoy!

What does Jeff Dunham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    The voices of the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A look into the mind(s) of a (nearly) schizophrenic comedic ventriloquist.

  • No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Mark Owen, Kevin Maurer
    • Narrated By Holter Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From the streets of Iraq to the mountaintops of Afghanistan and to the third floor of Osama Bin Laden's compound, operator Mark Owen of the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Development Group - commonly known as SEAL Team Six - has been a part of some of the most memorable special operations in history, as well as countless missions that never made headlines. No Easy Day puts listeners alongside Owen and the other handpicked members of the 24-man team as they train for the biggest mission of their lives.

Darwin8u says: "Gripping, first-hand narrative of Op Neptune Spear"
What did you love best about No Easy Day?

I really enjoyed this book. It begins as a fly-over journey of the events in one SEAL's life as they eventually lead him to a part in the raid on Bin Laden's compound. While there isn't much in the book that wasn't already reported in the media, it does a great job of putting the raid (and lead-up) into a first person account that drew me in and kept me listening.

What other book might you compare No Easy Day to and why?

Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. Lone Survivor is another good look at the inside workings of a SEAL's mindset, courage and determination.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I didn't realize that it wasn't the author reading the book until just now.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

  • Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Joe Vitale, Ihaleakala Hew Len
    • Narrated By Joe Vitale, Ihaleakala Hew Len

If it seems like you work hard but never get anywhere, maybe the problem is something within you. Maybe the limitations holding you back come from inside you, not from the outside world. Zero Limits presents a proven way to break through those self-imposed limitations to achieve more in life than you ever dreamed.

"Don't waste your time or money"

While the stories were interesting, it became clear that the book was turning out to be was just that... a collection of stories. Anecdotes interwoven with varied pitches to go to web-sites, sign up for weekend seminars etc. are not what I consider to be helpful.

A short summation of the process is finally described with approximately 35 minutes left and the full process is never fully revealed in the book due to "a confidentiality agreement" with the "Dr." often referenced in this book. You'll have to buy the weekend seminar that he pitches to actually get the mechanics of "Zero Limits".

I too would return this book if I could. I'm disappointed that what I purchased was a marketing brochure. It was not at all what was expected.

  • The Secret on Ararat: Babylon Rising, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Tim LaHaye, Bob Phillips
    • Narrated By Paul Michael

In the second Babylon Rising novel, Biblical scholar, archaeologist, professor, and hero for our times Michael Murphy is in pursuit of one of the most mysterious and sought-after of all Biblical artifacts, Noah's Ark. As Murphy undertakes his death-defying quest to ascend Mount Ararat, he will discover dramatic revelations of Biblical prophecies and be drawn even closer to the most terrifying evil about to be unleashed on all mankind.

    Tammy says: "Incredible"
    "3 1/2 stars"

The story line was fun to follow, but the ending was weak. Based on the hero's actions through the book, I was expecting a more imaginative solution to the last confrontation on his part.

I am looking forward to the next book though. I'd like to see if the villian really is...

  • Babylon Rising, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Tim LaHaye, Greg Dinallo
    • Narrated By Jason Culp
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The creator of the Left Behind series introduces a terrific new hero for our time. Michael Murphy is a scholar of Biblical prophecy, but not the sedate and tweedy kind. Murphy is a field archaeologist who defies danger to fearlessly hunt down and authenticate ancient artifacts from Biblical times. His latest discovery is his most amazing, but it will send him hurtling from a life of excavation and revelations to a confrontation with the forces of the greatest evil.

    Michael says: "A good inspiration"
    "Skip the book into"

Though this book didn't live up to expectations, I did enjoy the story. I felt the Left Behind series is much better. If you enjoy a good adventure/historical mystery/comic book with semi-believable characters, you'll enjoy this one.

To assist in your enjoyment you'll need to either skip LaHaye's intro, or disregard his description of the story's hero. He calls the hero someone who "faces many of the challenges of our day. Many that are familiar to all of us." You'd only be familiar with those challenges if your name was Indiana Jones.
