If you are not already a James W. Hall fan this book
is a wonderful place to start. Richard Allen's unique
voice truly lends magic to this twisted tale. Thorn
as Hall's main character is a Luddite, not a modern man,
but one that anyone would like to have in his corner if he needed help. He is fearless even to
the point of being a bit crazy but he will find the truth no matter what. He carries no ID but he navigates Miami like a pro though his home, his
life spirit lies in the Florida keys.

Having read all of the Thorn novels, my favorite until now was Blackwater Sound. I hope that Audible will add more of James Hall as he has some
super novels not in the Thorn series like Body Language. If you like mystery, superb characterization, and twists right up until the end enter Magic City; you won't regret it!

I've read the Banks series and other novels by Robinson. I was looking forward
to another very good read. It didn't happen.

The book lacks focus, wanders and has no real oomph. How an editor let this happen
I'll never know because the ideas are there but they fall flat.

Since the Banks series is great especially the early books I'll not give up on this
author but I will wait to see what others think before I buy the next one.

Even Simon Prebble couldn't save this one!

Will Patton's narration makes this book even more mesmerizing. Clete and Dave comealive as they would not on the printed page.

The evil in this tale is horrific and you always wonder what is about to happen to Cleteand Dave. Now that they are feeling their mortality due to age you just never know.

I've read all the Burke books including those older ones narrated by Mark Hammer whowas also wonderful. After his death, Patton came on the scene and I have not reada bad one done by him.

There is laughter, there is pain, there is evil--in short the book has everything.

To my knowledge this is the longest book in the series but I did not want it to end.I dreaded the next book after Glass Rainbow but this one is over the top in every way.
In my view James Lee Burke is a national treasure!

Plot goes nowhere except down. Language is appalling as are the constant perverted sexual scenes----a penis covered with thorns---really?? Book is way too long.
I wasted 7 hours hoping this would get better but it did not.

Not sure at this point because this is my first failure in a long time as I usually research my books carefully before choosing. Since I know that many of the writing trends today are not my cup of tea I will simply have to be more careful. One new writer recently caught my eye and I consider it a READ OF THE YEAR: A Land More Kind Than Home by Wiley Cash which Audible has. It has everything well done and cannot be put down.

He is OK as narrator but why a good reader would want to perform a book like this is beyond me.

I would probably have cut half the book or more. There were times when the story tried to take off but failed.

Books are like clothes; one size does not fit all and we have to choose carefully.
We also have to accept mistakes when they happen but of course that is hard to do.

Yes, as the language and humor invite another visit since it is easy to miss the subtle nuances of both Watson and Holmes's thinking and behavior.

Most of the time because the book is very well written. There are few slow spots and the author's skill keeps the reader listening and wanting to return to a new account of a favorite era.

His pacing is nearly perfect. Vance is never boring and each character comes aliveas he reads.

This tale will allow you to re-enter the world of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Wonderful effort from a new writer. Good new authors are as scarce as hen's teeth these days, especially those that challenge the reader's intellect and produce a great story as well.

I usually keep 2 or 3 audio books going at once. Not so with this one. I could not put it down and the
reader is perfect. Great plot, superb characters, and it all hits from page one. Don't miss this one!

If you like tension that stretches till you can't bear it, great flawed characters with more humanity
than you can bear,this THRILLER has it all! I've read all of Robotham and this is his BEST! I could not put it down and the narrator is a lot of the magic. Don't miss this one!!!!

If you have not read The Shifting Fog (The House at
Riverton) or this new one then you have two TREATS
in store. Kate Morton is a story teller extraordinaire and Caroline Lee adds the magic with
her superb narration. Dark family secrets,evil behavior,enthralling characters some of whom are damaged beyond repair are all uncovered as Nell struggles to find who she really is. If you like
storytelling as it used to be this one is for you!

I've read almost all of the Mitchell/Markaby series
and am thrilled that Audible has added so many of the titles recently.

The village of Lower Stovey virtually becomes a character itself in this novel. Old Billy,Dillys(sp)and others
are unforgettable just as is the Vicar's daughter who never fit into village life. The relationship of Mitchell and Markaby, whose love story is a strange one, takes
several twists in this tale. Markaby is at his best solving both an ancient murder and new ones
as well. He never gives up on a case.

If you love English mysteries that keep you guessing,this one is it. Narrator Judith Bond is a
national treasure in her ability to interpret characters in every one of these books. I also
recommend Say It With Poison as the first book and
a really superb story as well.
