  • Because I Said So!: The Truth Behind the Myths, Tales, and Warnings Every Generation Passes Down to Its Kids

Ken Jennings is here to tell us that mother and father didn't always know best. Yes, all those years you were told not to sit too close to the television (you'll go blind!), or swallow your gum (it stays in your stomach for seven years!), or crack your knuckles (arthritis!) are called into question by our country's leading trivia guru. Jennings separates myth from fact to humorously debunk a wide variety of parental edicts: no swimming after meals, sit up straight, don't talk to strangers, you'll get worms from cookie dough, and so on.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this audiobook! I love all of the great factual information that you learn while the author still keeps you fully entertained. I have already listened to it twice and recommended it to a lot of people. I am sure I will probably listen to it again too. Each time I hear it I pick up on more facts.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Because I Said So!?

I loved learning the facts behind so many of the warnings and threats you hear as a kid. I kept thinking that my mom HAS TO listen to this one because there are so many things he proved wrong in this book that I heard my mom say to me growing up.

Which character – as performed by Ken Jennings – was your favorite?

There are not really characters in this book. Ken Jennings does a good job of connecting with the listener though.

What did you learn from Because I Said So! that you would use in your daily life?

So many things! The proof or dismissal of so many "old wives tales"!

    Any additional comments?

    This is a must read/listen!

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

From mega-selling author Jodi Picoult comes an engrossing tale of medical morality and parental responsibility. Charlotte O'Keefe's daughter is born with osteogenesis imperfecta and will endure endless broken bones. Facing unthinkable medical costs, Charlotte considers a troubling solution. If she goes to court and says she would have terminated the pregnancy had she known of her daughter's condition, she might get enough money for a lifetime of medical expenses.

If you could sum up Handle with Care in three words, what would they be?

    Heart touching, Frustrating, Family

What did you like best about this story?

This story was all about family dynamic and how we handle tough situations. High levels of stress can tear your world and your family apart if you aren't careful.

Which character – as performed by Celeste Ciulla – was your favorite?

I think Amelia was my favorite. Lost little girl is a world focused on her sister.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending... don't want to ruin it for you.
I also liked when she got to go to camp.

    Any additional comments?

Wish the end would have been a little different.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

If you could sum up Gone Girl in three words, what would they be?

    Dynamic, unpredictable, thought provoking

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The hero of the story changes thought out the book. It makes you want to know what happens and you can't stop listening

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne – was your favorite?

I think my favorite character was probably Amy. She is a very dynamic character

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed more than I cried but the laughter was mostly in disbelief and awe of the story. It is a far fetched story but still believable. I think this is one of the things that made me really like the book.

    Any additional comments?

Strange book in some ways but a very interesting and dynamic storyline. I love books like this that are unpredictable with lots of twists and turns that you don't see coming. The characters are very interesting and you can't decide who you want to root for.
