  • The Boy Kings of Texas: A Memoir

A lyrical and authentic book that recounts the story of a border-town family in Brownsville, Texas in the 1980s, as each member of the family desperately tries to assimilate and escape life on the border to become "real" Americans, even at the expense of their shared family history. This is really un-mined territory in the memoir genre that gives in-depth insight into a previously unexplored corner of America.

    TERESA says: "Humor, authentic"
    "Impressive debut!"

There were times when I had to pause the audio because I was laughing so hard and I didn't want to miss anything. There were also times when I stopped dead in my tracks because of the power and truth in his words. Times when I replayed sections of the audio many times to be sure I had memorized each word correctly.

This story is honest and frank and a hell of a ride. The delivery of Emilio Delgado is spot on. I highly recommend this story to anyone.

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

    Tabitha says: "Love it!"
    "Easy, hilarious, and comforting."

If you are familiar with Mindy's acting work the performance may seem a little lacking in the Mindy department but I assume that this was intentional on the part of the producers because normal Mindy talks much faster and with much more inflection and just might be hard to follow. If you're not familiar with Mindy's work, what is wrong with you? Buy this right now!

Just don't listen to this in public, people will think you are seriously deranged when you burst out laughing then you silently convulse and tear up because you're trying to contain your laughter.
