"Incredible story"
I decided to listen to this book when I heard an interview on the Dianne Rehm Show with the author. I think it is truly amazing what we are able to accomplish when we are driven. Cheryl Strayed was driven to complete the hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. She was very unprepared, but, still managed to accomplish it. The fuel she ran on was grief. Pretty powerful!
"Pretty ho hum..."
I thought Cassandra Campbell did an excellent job in reading the book.
I will not try Piper Kerman again. I don't think she was able to pick out enough of the interesting stuff from her year in a women's prison. A good story teller can always do that.
Not really.
"Chock full of honest reflections."
I found myself laughing out loud through the beginning of the book. Maybe it started out "too funny" because I then had an expectation of a standup routine. It definitely happened to me again a few times during the rest of the book. But, this is a true autobiography, with all of life's ups and downs, insecurities and foibles. Tina Fey is such an intelligent honest person, you can't help but love her.
"Best listen I've had in a long time!"
I listen to books from audible on my commute every day. I find myself sometimes wishing the book would end because it just isn't compelling enough. This book was recommended by a coworker. This book is great! It was a long book, but, it was so good, it seemed to go so fast. This book gives you a lot to think about.
"Pretty interesting."
I got many fun facts from this book. I think you will enjoy it. I was telling my friend who works at a library and he said, "well this isn't a book about economics, but, about human behavior." Well, he is right, but, isn't economics the study of human behavior???
"Keep listening past the intro!"
There is some very funny stuff here. The intro is not one of them. The other disappointing performance is Steven Colbert. But, other than that, I really enjoyed this book. It is not all funny though. But, it rings very honest.
"Very disappointing."
I was really looking forward to this book as I had heard an interview with the author on NPR. What made the book so disappointing is all the redacting that the CIA did before the book could be released. This is a disaster as an audiobook, because every where a word of phrase was redacted, they sound a tone...so annoying I could not finish the book. I think the publication of this one shouldn't have happened, under the circumstance. It is a great disservice to the author and especially the "buying" audience, we the listener!
"Too long for message."
12 hours if way too long to get across the message this author is working on. There are interesting bits, but, it is such a tedious repetitive listen over a 12 hour period.
"This was torture to listen to."
I don't know why I stuck with this. It became so obnoxious to hear story after story of her escapades and dependence on alcohol. It should have been a 3 hour book...you learn nothing from this. Nothing. Also, I don't buy it that she is not an alcoholic.
"Loved this."
I listened to this book at the gym on the treadmill. I found myself laughing out loud many times. Very enjoyable!
