I first heard this during a difficult time of year when teaching fifth grade in Brooklyn, NY. I played over and over for all my colleagues. He's 100% correct in his response to teachers' "high" salaries. Teachers make a difference in ways that only teachers really understand.
I really enjoy Dick Francis novels and have liked the readers (especially Tony Britton), but this narrator doesn't know how to read punctuation and makes me want to sleep.
I'm a big fan of the overnight radio show "Coast to Coast". If you are too, you'll probably enjoy this novel. I didn't like the narrator. His voice was just not a good fit, but after I got into the story, it didn't matter so much. I listened to this while driving late at night where I couldn't get my favorite late-night show and this helped the miles fly by.
While I enjoy reading science fiction, I don't usually enjoy it as much in audio format. However, this book inspired me to give science fiction another chance. I like the short story format for this type of story and it kept me interested on several long trips. While it wasn't the deepest or most profound book ever written, it had an interesting main character and a creative look at a possible future neighborhood bar.
I used to enjoy Patterson when he first started writing the Alex Cross stories, but I should have stopped listening years ago. This book, like most of hos recent titles, is poorly plotted, lacking detail, devoid of character development and simply ridiculous. On top of that, the narrator is atrocious. I am pretty tolerant when it comes to audiobooks, but this was the worst book I purchased this year- actually in several years. I tried to give Patterson one last chance, but I wish he'd taken a machete to his manuscript. It would have been a more interesting story.
I am a Christie fan and this is one of her absolute best stories. It has all the characteristics of a classic detective story, but without the detective. Even though I knew the solution from having read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed listening. My 14-year old brother-in-law also enjoyed this audiobook. It was the only one during our 21-hr. drive home from Florida that kept his undivided attention.
