I LOVE this author and wish all of her Rose Gardner books we available on Audible.
If you like Joshilyn Jackson I think you will like this. The writing is similar but much lighter.
If you, like me, loved the James Herriott books you will be delighted with this book. Usually I think it is a mistake when the author is also the narrator, but in this case it was perfect! Tom Smith's voice is melodic and pleasant.
The writing is superb and I was very interested in the characters. I was not very interest in the story though because of the magic (fantasy fiction) aspect. I realize genre is very popular right but I hope to see other genres covered by March.
What a great book and the narration was outstanding! I think Kelly Harms is going to be a very famous author. She has the ability to create such wonderful, unique, lovable characters, it reminds me of Fannie Flagg. I didn't want this book to end.
If you loved this book you might also like the Rose Gardner books by Denise Grover Swank.
I am a huge fan of Fannie Flagg and I was anxiously awaiting her latest book. I was thrilled with the intertwining plots and historical data. This is an uplifting, interesting story that makes me want more books just like it. So I am going to download my other favorite Flagg novel- A Red Bird Christmas. If you love Fannie Flagg and are looking for similar light-hearted novels, I would recommend the following downloads from Audible:
Marriage Bureau for Rich People by Farahad Zama
Major Pettigrews Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Mrs. Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn
~And if you like Young Adult Fiction~
The Misadventures of Maude March is wonderful and has interesting historical information too.
I have been searching for weeks for a funny cozy and I have finally found it! And, not only that, luckily, it is a series. It has all the right ingredients- lovable characters, small town feel, charm & wit, interesting plot. I am a new fan of Virginia Brown.
The first 2 hours of this book are pretty bleak, but stick with it! It is a wonderful story with an upbeat ending. If you enjoyed Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt, you will love this too! This was my first book by Augusta Trobaugh and I can't wait to 'read' another.
Contractions aren't used so the writing sounds juvenille and contrived. No one talks like that.
I am sure this is a great book but it was impossible for me to get past the narration.
Yes. I found this book through a search on Novelist Plus for upbeat, historical fiction. Although I am an adult, I read YA novels often and this is one of the best. The narration was wonderful too!
I would also recommend similar books on Audible:
Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson
Fair Weather by Richard Peck
I wish more of Audrey Coulumbis' books were available as audiobooks.
Although the book is overall great, the racial slurs against african americans, italians and the irish are very disappointing. Because I love P.G. Wodehouse, it makes me sad to see this side of his character.
This book is great. But, 'Leave It To Psmith' is still the funniest ever.
Outstanding as always!
