  • The Three Marriages: Reimagining Work, Self and Relationship

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 41 mins)

According to Whyte, we humans are involved not just with one marriage with a significant other. We also have made secret vows to our work and unspoken vows to an inner, constantly developing self. Whyte's thesis is that to separate these marriages in order to balance them is to destroy the fabric of happiness itself; that in each of these marriages, will, effort, and hard work are overused, overrated, and in many ways self-defeating.

    "Very difficult to listen to"
    Overall

For the non-poetry reader that I am, I found the book too dense, too wordy. I bought it coming from the self-help side and don't particularly read/enjoy poetry. Perhaps my mistake buying this in the first place. I could only listen to the first few hours and then deleted it from my ipod.

  • Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.

    Overall

Great book! I was a little reluctant to read/listen to this but turned out to be an amazing book. I would highly recommend to anyone, whether you run or not.
Plus it got me back running. Did my first mile barefoot last week!
